Just as Warner Bros.' Batman franchise is flying high once again, MGM is hoping to reboot one of its action tentploles.

According to Variety, the studio is fast-tracking a new Robocop picture for a 2010 release, with Darren Aaronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, The Fountain) directing a script written by David Self. The original film, which debuted in 1987 and spawned two sequels, focused on a fatally wounded cop who returns to the force in cyborg form.

The studio is mum on the details, but some have suggested the new film will take a noir approach. What do you think? Are your excited for more "part man, part machine, all cop" action? — Adam Bryant

I have a question: why is it that over half of the "new" projects I keep hearing about are "remakes" and "reboots"? HAVE AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT! The creative strip mining of my childhood/adolescence marches on...
Escape to Witch Mountain, Rocky freakin' Horror (WHAT!), the Smurfs for cryin' out loud. Those are just the ones recently...don't get me started on all the ones that have already come out. (I just have to mention Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles though. Computer animation and NO Shredder?!?! I don't think any more needs to be said.)

I still love Batman though--but that's a continuous comic book frachise so I give some latitude. And Batman is the best...

There was no Shredder in TMNT?!?

I would have been very disappointed then...

There was no Shredder in TMNT because he was dead. TMNT was a direct sequel to the previous three. Shredder died in the second movie. TMNT did have Shredder's daughter leading the foot clan, though.

I agree about Batman. I also think that Christian Bale is doing a wonderful job (Heath Ledger was remarkable in this latest release). As for the whole remaking older movies. I agree. Yes they are bringing back characters that we loved (or maybe not loved so much) from the 80's but some good NEW movies are in order. The original ideas out there still leave a lot to be desired. I heard Thundercats is being made into a movie soon too. There was also talk of ET but that was a buzz from when the first movie release. I saw all three of the original Turtle movies (thanks to my brother) but have really no interest in the remake. The cartoons are being revised (Transformers and TMNT) and the drawings are not all that nor are the plots. I will say that the Transformers though was a really good movie!

TMNT isn't a remake. It's a sequel. As for the new Ninja Turtles cartoon series, the plots are much more similar to the comics than the 80s series was.
