New Star Trek's Captain: Quinto's "Extraordinary" as Spock

Trekkies know that Captain Kirk and a certain dry Vulcan named Spock became unlikely best friends throughout the original Star Trek franchise. But, how did they become one of TV's best odd couples? J.J. Abrams discussed the relationship at a Television Critics Association panel, saying, "We never saw how Kirk and Spock became so connected, and this movie [reveals that]." Did all of your (pointy) ears just perk up?

So, since the very important beginning of the Spock/Kirk friendship is featured in the movie, how does J.J. feel about relative newcomer Zachary Quinto's performance? Apparently, Quinto hit it out of the park. Abrams revealed that "Zachary is extraordinary," and that he brought "gravity and an enormous sense of humor [to the role]." That's a tricky task, for a tricky and complicated character.

Are you excited to see more about the new Star Trek movie? Do you think Quinto can fill Nimoy's Spock shoes? — Erin Fox

I think I was even more excited that y'all fixed the error! ;)

Of course I'm excited about Mr. Quinto as Mr. Spock. I feel that he's a tremendously gifted actor and am really juiced about the upcoming movie. I didn't watch the last incarnation of Star Trek so there's been enough absence to make this heart grow fonder.

I'm gonna miss my beloved Bill (Shatner) but seeing Leonard again in his signature role will be lovely in any case. I've always been interested in how Kirk and Spock's friendship came to be and am anxious to see how it's going to be handled. I'm really looking forward to 2009.

lvk1978, I agree...so much so I created an account to actually comment in hopes they would. lol. Usually I only read the site, it takes Star Trek to finally get me to login.

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner," and NOBODY fills Leonard Nimoy's acting shoes.

Well he certainly is nice to look at! ;) I'm excited about this new movie. Granted just like any Star Trek fan. (And I've been one since I was little. My first word was Spock. *grins*) I'm worried how our beloved characters will be protrayed. But I'm willing to give these new faces a try.

Though I still think that Paul McGillion from Stargate Atlantis would have made an awesome Scotty! Oh well, at least he has a small scene in the movie. (at least from what I read ages ago on gateworld.net)

I will go see the movie when it comes out, but it's a little difficult for me to start getting excited over a movie that is still almost a year away from its release date. It's difficult to maintain excitement for that long. I think I'll allow excitement to build starting in March. Control those emotions! Control them!

Zachary Quinto was born with the lush eyebrows to play Spock. Nimoy is certainly the sexier Spock but Zachary is a welcome addition to the ST canon.
