There will be singing. Maybe.

According to Variety, Daniel Day-Lewis is in talks to join the cast of Rob Marshall's musical, Nine. He would be filling the role that Javier Bardem recently dropped out of due to exhaustion. However, a spokesman for the Weinstein Co. (which is producing the film) said until an announcement is made, Day-Lewis' casting is "pure conjecture."

The film, based on the stage musical originally inspired by the Felliini film 8 ½, follows Guido Contini, a famous filmmaker who has trouble balancing his professional life with his personal problems and a bevy of women. Penelope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Sophia Loren, Nicole Kidman and Judi Dench will play the ladies in his life. — Adam Bryant

Call 911. Somebody needs to pull the knife out of Antonio Banderas' back! He's fine for a successful run on Broadway, but not for the movie role?

Daniel Day Lewis may have just won an Oscar this year but, when it comes to pure animal lust, he cannot begin to compare with Antonio. No way in heck.

I'll take Antonio's beautiful face, chiseled body, silky voice, and smooth dancing moves any day over Daniel's.

What a travesty!

I don't know if it's true or not, but I had heard that Antonio Banderas turned down the film version b/c a), he didn't want to be typecast (this would be his third musical) and b) he had put everything he had into the role on stage and had no desire to revisit it.

I would certainly hope that's the case. I know in the past B'way shows made into film don't typically cast the stage actors b/c they are not well known enough to carry a film, whereas this certainly wouldn't be the case with Banderas.

DDL as Conti actually peaks my interest in the film now.
