Sunday, Monday...Happy Days
Thanksgiving is upon us, which means it's time to update my nightly viewing schedule. I record plenty of stuff, but these are the shows that I try to watch live.
MONDAYS:
8 pm/ET Deal or No Deal (NBC) As a student of Jeopardy! and The Price is Right, every logical fiber of my being tells me I should be repulsed by this brainless show. Yet I cannot stop watching, and actually look forward to it. Well done, Howie and crew.
9 pm/ET Heroes (NBC) The only thing I'm tired of hearing is "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World." Can't wait to see how Peter gets a scar on his face.
10 pm/ET CSI: Miami (CBS) I'll take Caruso's emoting over Sorkin's pontificating.
TUESDAYS:
8 pm/ET Friday Night Lights (NBC) Dancing with the Stars is gone and Idol is coming. In the meantime, I'll watch some fake football.
9 pm/ET House (FOX) Great acting, good stories, and plenty of crotchetiness. Easily the best show of the night.
10 pm/ET Nip/Tuck (FX) Yeah, it jumped the shark with the Carver, but it's still interesting to see what the docs can get away with.
WEDNESDAYS:
8 pm/ET Jericho (CBS) This post-nuke drama is holding up well. I'd take credit for predicting its success, but I also said Kidnapped would be a hit. Go figure.
9 pm/ET Criminal Minds (CBS) While Lost finds its way on hiatus it's time to find out how Mandy Patinkin and crew win this time slot every week.
10 pm/ET South Park (Comedy Central) It's actually gotten better this season. Guaranteed laughs.
THURSDAYS:
8 pm/ET My Name Is Earl/The Office (NBC) Survivor is on the TiVo and Ugly Betty just isn't for me. Earl is slipping a bit, but The Office is the best comedy on TV right now.
9 pm/ET 30 Rock/Scrubs (NBC) I'm the guy who doesn't need to see McSteamy or Gil Grissom live at 9. Alec Baldwin is perfect in the uneven 30 Rock, and Scrubs makes me laugh all the time.
10 pm/ET Shark (CBS) The title says I have to watch, and James Woods devours the screen.
FRIDAYS:
8 pm/ET Ghost Whisperer (CBS) I really don't watch much on Friday at 8, but I want to be on Jennifer Love Hewitt's good side.
9 pm/ET Battlestar Galactica (SCI FI) Next to The Wire, the best drama on TV. No joke.
10 pm/ET Law & Order (NBC) It doesn't have to be old to be a classic, and this formula never spoils.
SATURDAYS:
The networks are mailing it in, and so am I. TiVo catch up night.
SUNDAYS:
7 pm/ET 60 Minutes (CBS) See my Law & Order blurb. Rest in peace, Ed Bradley.
8 pm/ET The Simpsons (FOX)/The Amazing Race (CBS) Thirty minutes in Springfield, and then a half hour of following Phil Keoghan around the world. I wish Family Guy was on at 8:30 instead of 9.
9 pm/ET The Wire (HBO) As good as television gets.
10 pm/ET Dexter (Showtime) Showtime comes through with an original creepy serial killer show. Well done.
That's my schedule. Tell me, what am I missing?

Wow, very similar viewing patterns. Here's what you're missing:
Prison Break, Mondays @ 8pm. Check the logic at the door and enjoy the ride.
Boston Legal, Tuesday @ 10pm. Even if quirky isn't your thing, BL will make you laugh-out loud at least a few times per episode. It's Shat-tastic!
ER, Thursday @ 10pm. Much improved over previous seasons. Last episode wasn't as great, but still worth checking out.

I too say Prison Break and Boston Legal. You say you know you shouldn't watch briefcases being opened, so switch to convicts murdering each other.

Glad you like Ghost Whisperer. Me too. But you're missing Close to Home which follows right after, then Numbers. I also love Justice on Fox, which seems to be on hiatus. Saw 3 lbs and love it. Yes Boston Legal is quirky but one enjoyable hour. NCIS is also quirky yet on the serious side. Of course I don't miss any of the CSIs franchise if I can help it, and of all the Law and Orders, while I love all, I hate to miss Criminal Intent, especially with Goren and Eames. Chris Noth and Julianne Richardson are great additions as well. I missed the premiere of Daybreak, but a friend of mine who is normally very critical of TV, said she saw Daybreak and was blown away! She said it's fantastic. To me this is one of the best seasons on TV.

Of course when new season of Monk, The Closer, Psych and Dead Zone returns, don't miss them either.

> The only thing I'm tired of hearing is Save the > Cheerleader, Save the World.
Same here. It's gotten to the point that, every time I hear it, I scream at my TV to shut up.

If you're gonna watch Jericho live, at least tape "Show Me the Money." It's so much better than "Deal or No Deal."
And it's got the great William Shatner. 'Nuff said.
Gotta add Prison Break. And QUICKLY check out "Day Break;" it's not too late.

Nice suggestions so far.
Prison Break is on the TiVo since I watch DOND with my kids at 8. Good call.
Can't get into Boston Legal anymore. I feel like it's played out.
Isn't everyone on Day Break too good looking? I'm not sold on a Groundhog Day premise every week.

I would at least add Brothers & Sisters to your TiVo. It's gotten better with every episode. Plus, you may as well see why Sally Field will win another Emmy this season.
And Men in Trees is a fun and lightweight show, a Sex and the Northern Exposure hybrid.

How I Met Your Mother belongs on your list. You already have Dexter and Scrubs, the only other two I would suggest.

I'm surprised to see you're not watching or recording Veronica Mars!

What are you missing?! Only one of the best shows ever put on television: snappy writing; good acting; fantastic stories!
Supernatural 8 p.m. (CST) on the CW ...
Even Matt Roush has put it on his list of shows to catch ...

p.s. And Friday Night Lights is so much more than "fake football." It's the best show this season that not enough folks are watching - so glad NBC picked it up for a full season!
Are you still catching Kidnapped now that it's online?
