Kinged David: Idol Voters Kiss the Cook
David Cook by Michael Becker/Fox
After the 10 runners-up performed seemingly countless group numbers in Brady Bunch-like matching outfits....
After select finalists got to deliver dream duets with their musical matches....
After that audition-round buffoon with the feathers... er, I'm not sure what he did, I was FF-ing so fast....
After the (almost-)top-secret "surprise" of vintage Gladys Knight and her contemporary Pips delivered perhaps the evening's most entertaining entertainment....
After Carrie Underwood and George Michael wowed the crowd some more....
After it all, a new Idol was named, and his name was David. David Cook.
Archuleta made it a close one, every step of the way. Everyone had rocker Dave pinned to win, but this Tuesday night, many felt that Cookie crumbled a bit. Simon single-handedly amped up the drama by declaring Archie the final round's winner "by a knockout."
Who. Would. Win?
We were left wondering for some 24 hours. Online polls, including the one here at TVGuide.com, had Cook in the definitive lead. Rumors elsewhere suggested that Cook took the telephone vote by a landslide. But would frantically texting teens thumb Archie to an upset?
As Simon said tonight, you cannot quibble with who won. Or lost. We have seen the last of neither David.
"This is amazing," an emotional Cook said upon winning. "Thank you."
And thank all of you for watching this Idol season with us. It really is always an experience. — Matt Mitovich

This was a great finale! There were parts I didn't care for, but overall it was great. I was pulling for Archuleta, but I really didn't care who won-they are both amazing guys! David Cook is a truly humble guy and Archuleta handled coming in 2nd very well.
Congrats to Cook, and good job to the both of them!
Can't wait to see what songs Cook releases and if David A. will have an album!

Wow, did the person who wrote this pay attention at all? They announced the exact breakdown of the votes. Can anyone say, Clueless?

well I was a tiny bit bummed for David Archuleta, but impressed with how he handled it. I was worried for him if he lost. Also thought it was touching how Cook went over to Archie and gave him a hug and kind of included him in his "moment" during his last song. I'm excited for both of their cds as I am sure I will buy both. Unlike some people on this site who totally seemed to be against Archie, I don't think ONLY 15 yr old girls (I'm not) will buy his cd. When I'm in a quiet emotional mood I would much rather listen to Archie's cd, but when I'm in my car trying to stay awake, I'd pull out Cook's cd. There is obviously room in the world for both.

Whoo-hoo! America got this one right.
David A. was definitely talented, but I was rooting for David C. to take the title.

Um...Ryan announced the breakdown right at the top of the show: 56% to 44%, or about 12 million more votes for David C.

So I recorded tonight's finale because I fast-forward through all the garbage and then I got to the end.
Ryan says, "And the winner is ... David" and then the DVR cuts him off and stops as it's past the scheduled time. Just like last year with Jordin Sparks.
Even though it was frustrating, I laughed my ass off. Thankfully, AI is going back to half-hour results shows next season.
I'd say congratulations to David Cook, but he doesn't read this stuff.

Hurrah, Go David Cook! I knew he'd win. Throughout all of what I said though, at least tonight I was proved right when I said David Cook is more rounded and David A can only sing ballads. David A trying to sing Hero tonight was terrible >.> stick to the ballads kido! Regardless, they both have amazing voices...Cook was just the better of the two
<3<3
Oh, just thought I'd post this straight from yahoo.com
"While Archuleta was heaped with praise by the judges the night before, the voters decided otherwise -- and it wasn't even close. Host Ryan Seacrest said during Wednesday's show that 12 million votes was the difference"
Amazing good job to both guys!

i hope all of you adult people who keep putting down a very talented kid are happy with the results. i think david cook is talented and will do well, but to thoose who say david a couldnt sale ,do you realize the high school muscial soundtracks sold more that any rapper or edgey rocker in the past two years. in a time when most our youth are in rehab for the second time i found it refreshing to see a nice kid do well.and being clean cut hasnt hurt an artist do well before why should it now. congrats to mr. cook. but i think david a. did not deserve all the hate in this blog.

I'm not hating on David A vandarian. I just really think he has tons more to learn to be even close to being the equal of David Cook. No one is saying he can't sing...but it just gets extremely annoying when judges constantly tell other contestants to try new things and be a little more original. Then when they do they get bashed, yet throughout the whole entire season David A sang ballads, and only ballads..and when he was forced to do something else, he wasn't praised at all. Because he can't sing anything else...he needs to learn more of a range than just ballads. That's where David Cook beats him, cook can do it all just about. If the kid could do more than just ballads yeah he probably would have won, without a doubt.
His voice has a lot of growing to do still....that's all I'm saying

Gotta love the comcas DVRs and Fox for screwing the pooch on this one. I love it. "And the winner is,,,,David" NOTHING. I fast forwarded though 2 hours of junk to hear that? Thank goodness for YouTube and other online videos. At least it ended the way I wanted. Also - Of the 2 Guitar Hero commercials, which did YOU like? I loved the David Cook one. David A is a bit out of place for that type of thing. I also felt that David Cook could easily fit in with ZZTop or Bryan Adams...very well rounded talent.
Congrats to David Cook.
