Rosie Makes "Bold, Brave, Beautiful" Danny an Offer
In a video blog segment posted Friday, Rosie O'Donnell invited freshly ousted American Idol contestant Danny Noriega to sing on her cruise.
"I don't know if you have to sit around the American Idol studio and, like, look sad for the next few weeks," says the comedienne, "but a week from tomorrow, an R Family Cruise is leaving from San Diego for Cabo San Luco." (A voice behind her then said that it's going to Puerto Vallarta, but whatever.) "So, Danny Noriega," Ro continued, "you've got a free cruise. You and a friend. I want you to sing 'Tainted Love,' and I think you're fantastic. I think you're a bold and brave and beautiful young man. I admire you, Danny Noriega, and you have an amazing voice.... So why don't you come on the cruise?"
Cyndi Lauper, among other artists, will apparently also be onboard, and O'Donnell promised a duet op with the returning pop star — and maybe even a trio, with Rosie herself joining in.
So, Danny: Are you going to go for it? If you want some company in Mexico, D, I'm sure there are a few of us here who could chaperone. Let us know.... — Anna Dimond

This cruise would potentially set the record for people throwing themselves overboard.

I don't watch "Amer Idol" until the final shows because of the way the kids are treated and their secrets are outed. Who cares whether a person is gay or straight or has hair extensions? Evidently a lot of Americans, who see a threat in everything else, but not in the things that are really threatening America.

We ALL know she's inviting him because he's gay. If this guy didn't make it obvious, Rosie wouldn't have given him a second glance.

I've reported tillie1 for abuse -- twice. There's no good reason to call anyone a scanky witch or fat bimbo. The world is hateful enough. So since your momma didn't teach you any manners, I will. Grow up, be more respectful, and "If you can't think of anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything at all."

Hmmmm, seems like I remember a fill-in singer for Grammy rehearsals a few years back who Rosie heard and fell in love with and invited him to be on her show, and he got alot of publicity.
Gee, wonder whatever happened to that kid. I think his name was Josh Groban.

So what if she's reaching out to him "just because he's gay." You reach out to your own when you think they need a hand. Besides, it sounds like a good time to me. Why would anyone turn down an offer to perform a duet with Cyndi Lauper?!?!?!

The R Family Cruises are safe venues for LGBT families who can travel and relax on a cruise ship unfettered by the constraints of an often-prejudiced-against-us society. Rosie and Kelly always book fascinating and talented entertainers from the Broadway and musical theatre worlds; she also has a great organization called Rosie's Broadway Kids that bring music and theatre to the local schools of NYC. She loves kids - she loves musical theatre. It has been proven that exposure to music makes students better at math and science - who would not want that for their children? I invite the less-enlightened members of this forum to learn more about your subject before blasting her with your opinions.

BarbyAZ: I don't understand your post. Please explain. No one has been outed because of American Idol (except maybe David Hernandez - but the jury is still out on that one; and regardless - he's hot looking and is a good singer). Rosie inviting Danny on the cruise has nothing to do with American Idol, other than he possibly could be free to do this cruise. And, since you DON'T watch the show until later - Danny got booted off because he couldn't sing and had a snotty attitude - not because of his sexual orientation.

You have to be kidding ... a cruise with the New Queen of Mean.... Danny run the other way....fast... to be even on the same stage as her will do nothing but ruin your budding career...Rosie is a rude, obnoxious slob. And those are three of the nicest words I could find.

While, I'll agree that his attitude and performances played a big part, his being "obvious" played it's part, too (reading comments on any AI topic can pretty much confirm that). Would he have gotten further if he'd played the part of the nice guy? Probably. But the fact remains that most people (gay and straight, btw) are uncomfortable when it comes to so-called "girly" guys. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blaming his ouster on homophobia. But I won't say it didn't factor in significantly.
