After the Tears, Ramiele Malubay Reflects on Idol
Ramiele Malubay on American Idol by Ray Mickshaw/Fox

Despite the tears Wednesday night following her elimination, Ramiele Malubay was her typical cheerful self the next day, offering perspective on her performances on Idol and the competition overall, as well as what the future may hold (and yes, Danny Noriega is in it).
With solemnity, Malubay acknowledged the hard truth that "there is only one winner [of the show]," but she also sees her weeks on Idol as significant, even if her chances to win are over. "It's actually the first real big thing that's happened in my life," she said. "It's exposure, it's a future, and I'm very grateful to the judges to get me as far as I did to let America judge."
And by "judges," Malubay was including Simon, too. He compared her Tuesday performance to that of a singer on a cruise ship, but she still trusts that he has her best interest in mind. "Oh, he likes me, I know he does," Malubay assured reporters. "I... believe in my heart that he says the things he says, sometimes he overdoes it; it's TV, but he just wants us to be better." For any doubters out there, the ever-abrasive judge was Malubay's shoulder to cry on after the elimination.
During the course of the show, the petite singer also learned that listening to the judges too much was the flip side of things. She said she found herself getting psyched out and second-guessing herself, which she thought came through on stage. Yet, somewhere between recording Idol videos, rehearsing, and performing, she picked up some life skills, too. "I learned to be [a more] humble person," she admitted, adding, "I learned to... appreciate the little things and to be more courteous to people."
Some of her newfound skills might come in handy in her next phase of pursuits. With plans to stay in L.A. and give her singing career a go, we may be seeing more of her soon. Once the tour is over, Malubay's dreaming of an R&B album, some acting and — without a doubt — a duet with soon-to-be-roommate (and cruise-ship expert himself) Danny Noriega.
Finally, after staying in the competition so long, Malubay also had some advice for future Idol wannabes: "Be yourself... enjoy every single minute of it, because if you think too far ahead you're going to miss the fun stuff when you look back." — Anna Dimond

I hope she does do well, and maybe she's right, because I liked her much better at the beginning (and before that during her try outs).
Don't know who I'm picking - unlike most I'm no longer voting for Cook - though he did try rectifying himself (or Ryan did) explaining his "original" covers were actually taken from other people's songs - still I don't know there's something I no longer like.
I'm hoping for Michael or Danny A, and I like Carly and Brooke, but going with the flow and think Jason and Kayle (have I blacked out on her name) are the weakest of a strong bunch.
LOVE Simon!! so what do I know!!!

People need to stop tripping about David C giving props for the arrangements he has done. If you would view the interviews he did prior to the songs, he gave credit for each arrangement. I checked youtube and found the interviews prior to "Billie Jean" and others and he gave the previous artist credit. So what's the big deal? Just about everyone on the show has performed someone else's music. I don't think there's anything in the rules that states they can't. David C. by far is the best this year and I pray America is not swayed by the naysayers and let him lose. He has the voice, charisma, and everything in between; unlike some of the others.

Good for you, Ramielle!
I think it's a good insight when she says she was letting everything psyche her out; one of the things I initially liked about her was her confidence -- she seemed not to fall apart under fire. But then later on, she seemed kind of overwhelmed and unable to remember who she was. I'm impressed by her wisdom at this point. I hope she can stay grounded somehow because she's have plenty of instant celebrity to deal with. Good luck, Ramielle!

Since ALL the idols do arrangements belonging to others, you're going to have a hard time deciding on who to vote for!!! David has said EVERY week whose arrangment he is singing, except for this week's - which was HIS OWN. He tells Ryan that before he goes on stage to sing.

Indeed. I think it's the producers' responsibility to make clear who gets credit for what, not the contestants. They never state who wrote the songs' lyrics, and yet we all understand that the contestants didn't write them. I think the arrangements, too, should be understood as someone else's unless the contestants make clear "Hey, this is mine, I did something special" like Blake Lewis did during Bon Jovi week (or David himself this week).
It's certainly puzzling when the judges praise the contestants for arrangements that someone else did, but they and the producers should be sure not to cause the confusion, since they're the ones running the show AND they're well aware of the controversy that's errupted each year over this issue.

For the record, David's vocal arrangement of Little Sparrow cherry-picked from Dolly's original and Kasey Chambers' excellent cover from the tribute album a few years back, while scaling back the more hardcore bluegrass elements of both. I honestly don't care that he's covering covers. I just wish he were good. The guy's vastly overrated and I don't know how anyone thought that his ridiculously out-of-tune falsetto sounded good. Where was Randy and his pitch-meter then?
