Will David Archuleta's Dad Bring Him Down?

Remember a couple weeks ago when the Idol contestants sang a song from their year of birth? And remember Simon’s comment to little David A. about him being surprised if he chose the song himself? Rumors swirled that that comment was directed straight at David’s father Jeff, and now sources are reporting that he could quite possibly be the stage-dad-from-hell. Even the Today show is reporting on the matter!

Your take: Do you believe the rumors that David was simply cracking under the pressure? What are your sentiments on stage-parents? Do you think they’re too hard on their kids and their self-esteem, or do they have to be tough considering how hard it is to make it in the industry?

This is David's moment and his dad should stay in the background and wait until he is asked for advice. David is apparently appealing to his own peer group so he probably knows best what they will like anyway. He should also ignore Simon's comments about staying away from ballads and songs of passion. That it his forte' and he should exploit it. I can't wait to see what the boys do with Maria Carey songs. I hope none of the girls squeal like Maria does (I like everything but that part of it). That makes me want to run for cover. There are some octaves that only whales should attempt.

I think that DA's dad should back off of the criticism and provide some REAL support. I can only imagine how David sometimes gets treated by his fellow co-idols. It's gotta be real tough to be sitting at the top almost all of the time and I imagine he gets a few "daggers" shot his way by other contestants when he continuously lands near the top. Papa Bear needs to back off and be a member of the chronic cheering team. The final show should be the closest since Reuben and Clay. Cazn't wait to see it. I hope David Arc wins it all. David Cook is also sure to get a contract out of this.

Stage parents have no business going back-stage--especially Archuleta's dad. What a jerk! Amer. Idol should ban him from the theater, as well. Send him back to Salt Lake City and let him watch from his own TV. MOH

DAVID'S DAD NEEDS TO BACK OFF AND LET THE IDOL TEAM DO THEIR JOB WITH OUT HIS OPINION OR REMARKS. DOES DAVID'S DAD HAVE A JOB????, BECAUSE HE ALWAY IN THE AUDIENCE !!! AND WHAT ABOUT HIS MOTHER??WHAT'S HER OPINION???. DAD WILL HURT, DAVID CAREER IF HE DOES'NT LET THE PROFESSIONALS DO THEIR JOB, HE NEEDS TO STOP BEING A JERK!!!!.
