Report: David A.'s Dad Is Banned from Backstage
David Archuleta by Frank Micelotta/Fox
American Idol lawyers have formally banned David Archuleta's famously overzealous stage dad from rooms where his son is "learning or rehearsing songs," both the Associated Press and TMZ are reporting.
The final straw came when Jeff Archuleta, who all along reportedly has been badgering producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other singers, sought to rewrite the lyrics to "Stand By Me," which David served up this week. Though advised by Idol that incorporating bits of Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girls" was a massive no-no, Jeff nonetheless sent his son onto the live show to sing the unapproved version, creating problems with the song's publisher and costing Idol big bucks.
Jeff — who incurred a similar banishment when young David competed on Star Search — will be allowed to sit in the audience during Idol's remaining live shows, but is forbidden from venturing backstage.
Update: An alleged retraction of this story from an "Idol spokesperson" named "Andrea Jamison" has yet to be confirmed. Well-placed sources at Fox have no knowledge of any such named person, and certainly not in any capacity relating to American Idol. — MWM

David should be embarassed! He needs to stand up for himself and grow some you-know-whats.
Idol should sue his father if they have to pay legal fees because David sang the unapproved song.

Poor David A.
When people call him awkward or emotionally repressed, can there be any doubt about why? ANYTHING he says will be judged or battered by his father as soon as he steps off stage.
For those who claim David A. needs to stand up to his father, they ignore both the raw psychological power of an abusive relationship, and the fact that David is not yet emancipated.
Regardless of whether David A. wins or loses, my heart breaks for him, because he has to return to that beastly father. If he loses, Dad will spend the rest of his days berating how David screwed up. If he wins, Dad will try to micromanage (and thereby screw up) every one of David's choices going forward.
And we know, from the "script" of the stage parent and the abuser, that David's father is likely motivated by financial inadequacy (he wants his son to provide) and vicarious need for success (since he must himself be a failure--at least in his own mind).
Poor David A. I wish him peace.

You see, THAT'S why David C. should win.

Yes, I feel bad for David. I feel kinda bad that he is so repressed that he can't even speak on stage, and he answers every question by saying how much he just wants to have fun.
That said, ultimately, singing that song was David's fault. His father could have pressured him into it, but that is no excuse for his violating copyright laws and potentially putting the show in legal trouble. It is inexcusable for someone his age to not know better.
I've never been a fan. I'm not hiding that fact, but the kid should be booted. This is not a small issue, it's a violation of copyright laws since no credit was given to the owner of that music and it was used without their permission. He broke the law. Yet, the judges went right ahead and puckered up when it came time for their pre-scripted comments. Just because they STILL want him to win.
If this wouldn't get someone kicked off the show, what would?

I've been noting all along that David A is emotionally behind for his age, and now it's painfully clear why. Being constantly controlled by an abusive parent can easily lead to the destruction of the child. I've been concerned about David A all along, and now I'm even more concerned that when the boy is freed, he'll go off the deep end because he has no expecience thinking for himself. Good luck to him, and I hope (for DA's sake, at least), David Cook wins.

Poor kid. He constantly looks mentally exhausted. I now sort of want him to lose and have a failed music career just so he can go back home and enjoy whatever is left from his childhood.

They should bounce baby faced david out of the competition too. If he has no respect for the show or the rules they are bound by, the talent of the writers and the words they use, who needs him. Send him back to U-tah!

The nicest thing this man can do for his son, at this point, is have his teeth straightened. He's a terrific singer, but when he opens his mouth to sing and smiles, eeewwwww. If the man cares about his son so much, I wonder why he hasn't taken him to the orthodontist before now.

I think David is a great talent but he also seems immature. As we learn more and more about the father, I am not surprised. Good news is that he is nearing 18.----question is, is he equipped?

Matt, good on ya for banning the spammer. Can't his post be deleted too?
I think the reporter got the wrong song that he sang the additional lyrics from though. I listened to the song again while I had the lyrics up, and they don't match the song by Sean Kingston. The extra lyrics were: Whenever you need a friend Whenever you're feeling lonely And all you beautiful girls None of those lyrics are in the other song, and I can't find any one specific song that has those lyrics either.

David A was also on another of the 'star' shows a while back, the one where Naomi Judd was a judge. She was on a morning show recently, and when she was asked about David A, expressed how wonderful he was, and then went on and on about how bad she felt for him because of his horrible stage dad. They had to finally ban him from the show!
This is history repeating folks!
