Clay Aiken Dissing American Idol?

Well, not exactly. Extra has the scoop that American Idol alum Clay Aiken no longer watches American Idol. "It's just not the same thing," Aiken says. "It's like going back to your high school and none of your teachers are there. It's just completely different."

Well, yeah. Time marches on, Clay. To everything, turn, turn, turn. What exactly does he think has changed? "I feel like the show was very innocent for a while when I was on it, and I absolutely thank God for it... it's just not the same show," he said. (Incidentally, I'm guessing that might be how a lot of people would describe Clay, too.) "It's not that I have an aversion to it. It's just, 'Eh, next.'"

What's next, you ask? Well, it just so happens that On My Way Here, Aiken's new album, is in stores now. What a kooky coincidence. — Mickey O'Connor

Well you cant expect a show to stay the same for 7 years! Things are gonnna change... ppl would lose interest if it was the same year after year.

Clay is right. The show isn't the same. I think it was much more fun when the contestants were kids next door instead of people who have already had professional careers. I have heard lots of people say the same thing. I've watched some of the show this year, but it's just boring to me now. No excitement. Yawn. He's right about moving on the next project. Idol gave him a great opportunity, and he's grateful for it. But people can't cling to the past. By the way, if you haven't listened to his new CD, "On My Way Here," you should. It's fantastic.

Hey Clay! Martin Short just called and his gay little elf character wants his hair-style back!

Clay's right. It just isn't the same. It started out being a show about kids next door that could really sing. FOX decided to pimp it and make an entire series about kids that not only couldn't sing - but were horrible. And the one's that can are semi-professional. It's probably not even attracting the same type of singers. Remember when Kelly Clarkson, et. al, auditioned, they had no idea what they were in for. It was uncharted territory. They just wanted to sing. Now the people that try out want to be stars. The tenor of the show reflects that.

I was a huge supporter of Clay while he was on American Idol and supported him when his CD and his book was released. However, if he thinks American Idol isn't the same, he should take a look in the mirror. He looks like some wierd spin-off of Clay Aiken. I much preferred the former image!

As for Idol, it is still a great show! But like many others, I could do without all of these people who are actually professionals trying to launch a failed attempt at stardom from the Idol platform. Let's get back to basics. Only people that have never performed professionally - that means people that haven't been paid to sing. If you sing in clubs - too bad; if you are a backup singer for a band - too bad; if you sang in a broadway play - too bad.

I think you get the message. But Clay, let's have a little attitude of gratitude here! Idol gave you your break - suck it up and keep the negative comments to yourself!

To quote Mr. Aiken accurately, he said that when he was on AI it was a more innocent time, and the contestants came from small towns and farms and had very little former experience. Now, some have been working professionally longer than Clay. So if your going to quote the talented idol, please get it right.

I heard him comment on Idol and I know what he means. Somehow the show keeps growing. That could be a good or bad thing.I lost a little bit of enthusiasm when they extended the bad tryouts. To me that is insulting. (I don't like watching other people's video either.Just me but I have my own to watch). Plus Simon seems to have too much power. Simon was behind Fantasia which is what helped her bypass others. He picks who he wants.I think there is manipulation also of the voting. So yes, I could go on but it definitely has changed. I think they should go back to simplicity.JMHO

Let's see Fantasia, Diana or Jasmine? I'll take Fantasia, thank you very much.

Does it really matter whether Clay watches the show any more? I'd like to know whether he formed friendships with anyone he competed against during his season and whether they still stay in touch. Or what did he find so burdensome about the 19 Entertainment management contract that he sued to be released from it (did it leave a bad taste in his mouth regarding "Idol")? What are his thoughts about his current management company?
