Tour Update: Kristy Lee and Carly on Missing Their Men

It's been barely over a week since the American Idol tour got underway, but life on the road is already presenting its shining moments and its tougher aspects for the top ten singers. Two of the Idols, Kristy Lee Cook and Carly Smithson, talked to TVGuide.com about the mixed bag of hitting the road all summer long.

One of the main challenges so far, each confided, is staying connected to their main squeezes. Kristy Lee, who got engaged during Season 7, said she hasn't seen her man at all. "I get to see him on the 10th, but I don't know if he's going to any of the other shows," she lamented, adding, "It's tough. We've had a few 'moments,' because he doesn't understand what's going on, but he's starting to get the picture when I'm like, 'I can't handle this!' But he's getting the picture that he needs to be supportive. He's starting to come around."

Carly also admitted that her grueling tour and rehearsal schedule has been hard for both her and her husband. "The whole [thing of] not being able to hang out with him as much is just awful. For me, [L.A.'s] my last city where I'm going to get to see him," she said. But Smithson also sees the humor in some of the Idols' whirlwind lives. "He's been amazingly understanding. Like 'I can't talk to you right now. I'm putting on an eyelash.' Weird things like that!"

But of course, even with their heavy hearts, these two songstresses love to put on a good show, and they're savoring little perks of the tour — like four whole hours in a hotel bed before it's time to pack up the bus again. Of their stage time, Kristy Lee beamed when she described how grown men cry during her performance of "God Bless the USA," while Carly's eyes got big as she gave her set list run-down, including "Crazy on You" by Heart: " It's my favorite song eeevvver," she said.

By now, these ladies are no strangers to the stressors of stage life, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't savor a day off, too. Now that Kristy's done recording her country album, she said she'd go ride horses — no question — if she had 24 hours to play. And Smithson? "I would go hang out with my husband and take a nap," she said, but added, "Wait, that sounds lame. I'll have to think about something funner than that!" — Anna Dimond

Zzzzzzz...huh, what...did someone say something?
I mean, come on.
KLC's now engaged and her guy "doesn't understand" that she's on tour? What is he, a dimwit? Being out on tour means that she's traveling around and usually in transit during the day and performing at night. How hard is it to figure out that she's not going to be there every moment to argue about who's going to hang up first.
And Carly...don't get me started. She's only been after this "big break" for years. So if her husband can't deal with not being with her 24/7, it makes me wonder if all that ink on his face corroded his brain. And here again Carly tries to find something funny to say. You're a singer, Carly, not a comic.
Oy.
At least Brooke wasn't whining about not being around her husband...or the kids she nannies. I guess that might suggest, yet again, that she has a good head on her shoulders.

Yikes, Darclyte, what's with the mean post? I thought it was a cute little article. I can understand how tense it can get with their significant others, even if it's something that they both expect will happen. You always think that you can handle it just fine until the time actually comes. Perfectly understandable in my opinion.

Awww, I love Carly, but Kristy Lee...anyway, isn't Syesha engaged, as well. She's way too driven to let anything get in her way, LOL. Love her too...my best to them all.

Darclyte, LOL couldn't have said it better myself. What a non-story about of couple mediocre reality "stars". Ha!

I 'spect these gals were tired and put on the spot by Anna and said more than they intended. They'll learn quickly that every idle word [pun intended] will get reported

First they had a non story wondering if David Cook and Kim Caldwell's relationship would survive him on tour, and now this. Similar story with a slightly different take. I guess TV Guide sent reporters to cover the tour, and not much is going on so they had to come up with something.
If there are "relationship" issues, let's not read about them until they've been on tour for more than 30 days. A couple of weeks is nothing to get worked up about.
Give us some real news from the tour.
Who's getting booed?
Who's having issues with their singing or instrument playing?
Who's not getting along backstage?
What did Jason say to show how dumb he is, and who is he "fighting" with now for calling him dumb?
What did Brooke say to show how naive she is?
Who's "hooked up" while on tour?
What celebrities have been seen at the shows?
What former Idols have showed up?
Which Idols are letting the fame go to their heads?
Who's signed a record deal?
Who's recording in between performances, and how are those sessions going?
I'm sure there are more stories than, "Oh boo hoo I miss my lover."
Gag.

They better enjoy the tour and their 15 minutes of fame while it lasts. You never know when people won't want to listen to you anymore. It's kinda of an offensive article to all who would love to be in their place.

boo hoo hoo I miss my boo. Get over it. There's still a lot of time on the tour. How about the fact that Kristy has already finished recording. Probably some left over material from the first bomb. this one probably won't be any good either if she's done already.

I ditto everything Ðarclyte wrote. The way they were whining, you'd think they were headed off to Iraq and unable to see their husbands/families for a year. They should just suck it up and quit insulting the bunches of people who wish they could be in their places this summer. [sheesh] The 15 minutes is happening for them right now and they should just enjoy it while they can because it won't last forever.
