And Then There Were Nine: Who's Your Idol Now?
The following contains spoiler information about Wednesday night's American Idol results show.
As painful as "Beatles: Part Love Me Deux" was, this week's roof-raising performance show was better. Michael Johns dared to tackle Queen... and walked away a winner. Syesha Mercado, whom many had written off, turned the beat around and put herself back in the game. And David Cook took a huuuuuge risk — one that had me thinking aloud to the wife, "He'll either get ripped or get raves" — but it was a gamble that paid off. (And yes, folks, props were given to Chris Cornell.)
Now there are nine left, since on Wednesday night America said goodbye to Chikezie. In light of that exit and with another week's exposure to the remaining talent pool, is your Idol vote wavering? Think about who you really believe is pacing themselves to win this thing, and then have your say in this week's Power Rankings. Vote here. — MWM

As predicted earlier, David A has fallen out of the front runner spot and has been over taken by David Cook. Right now, it's probably his to lose, but like Daughtry, he actually might do better by NOT winning. Daughtry still gets a lack of respect for having come from AI, but at least is getting respect by selling well, putting out good music, and having successful tours all despite not winning AI. Should Mr Cook actually win, he could face all sorts of problems from the "rock community." Which would be a shame, because talent is talent regardless of how they got noticed.

I am done with American Idol. It is clear to me that the judges and producers want this show white washed and they are getting there way. The bottom 3 consisted of all the miniorities. The judges made the top 20 consist of mostly rock and pop type singers. Anyone that has a soulful type voice is gone or about to be gone.

cheesehead91182, could it be because they are not great singers and don't perform as well? Everyone on the boards predicted they would all be in the bottom three due to their lackluster performances. So it's not like it didn't come out of left field. Exactly what are you basing this on?

Oh give me a break, cheesehead91182, this is the first year in a very long time that minorities haven't dominated the finalists. This year we simply don't HAVE a Melinda Doolittle or a Ruben Studdard. I'd much rather have a diverse group, but not at the expense of keeping people around who aren't kickass performers.
And really, for an "American" Idol contest, it's still pretty diverse - we've got an Australian, an Irish woman, a Filipino, a Colombian, and a black woman still in the top 9.
Edit - I feel like my last paragraph suggests that "American" means "white" and I don't mean that at all - I'm just trying to illustrate that it's NOT like we've just got a bunch of identical people in the top 9 and that it's foolish to suggest there's an agenda at play.

Can we please go someplace online without someone playing the race card. The results were fair based on the performances overall. Race and minorities had nothing to do with it. If you want to talk race.....go to a Presidential candidate blog.

This group is anything but diverse and it is sad (but not surprising) that you all can't see or don't want to see what is really going on here. And the only one that deserved to be in the bottom 3 was Ramilee but she certainly should not have gone last night when there are others on the show that have no talent.

better yet, can we go someplace in America without someone playing the race card.
it amazes me that people think the producers have some kind of agenda when it's the AMERICAN PUBLIC that vote for who stays and who goes.

This isn't playing the so called race card it is a FACT. Syeesha gave the best performance of the night and Checkizie did very good too yet they were in the bottom 3. Do you honestly believe it just happens to be that this year on American Idol most of the contestants are white and have a rock/pop style of sining? Sure we are long past the days of whites only drinking fountains and bathrooms but racism is still alive in American and it is sad that so many people will brush it off as playing the race card.

Rascism?
Please.
Chekezie....when he's good, he's great. When he picks the wrong song...as he did Tuesday and he's mediocre.
Syesha? SOMEBODY has to be in the bottom 3 week to week. She did a wonderful job and did NOT go home. Or did you miss that?
The only "ism" going on here is with KL Cook and her pandering song choice. Don't think for a minute that that song choice wasn't in part to go for the blind patriot"ism" vote. I expect similar song choices in the coming weeks.
Newsflash: Get ready for Ramielle to leave, too. Her voice simply isn't good enough to win the whole thing. It's good, but she's mousy with it. She doesn't pick songs that let her blast it out. She did this week, but she was too sick to make it work.
Rascism? There have been 6 winners. TWO of them have been African-American. Others have not won, but propelled themselves into pretty solid careers and one went on to win an Oscar. Or did you miss that, too?
People respond to "good" and all it takes at this stage is one less than steallar performance and you go. KLC SHOULD have gone, but that means A) She has a rabid following(for some reason) and B) Tuesday she played the "Vote for me or the terrorists win" card and it worked

Three, even - Jordin, Fantasia, and Ruben. Or am I misremembering Jordin's heritage? In any case, she was NOT a white pop singer.
I have a feeling we can argue all day with this person and he/she will still insist that something other than voters responding to good song choices determined the bottom 3 - while not really giving us anything to back it up. (Saying that the people in last night's top 6 don't have any talent is a ridiculous comment - they ALL have talent this year, some just know how to use it better than others).

Wasn't Jason Castro in the bottom 3? Just checking to make sure I watched the same show since I've been drugged up on cold meds all week. Is he a minority? He looks like a white guy with dreads to me...

I am totally sick of those who cry racism when they don't get their way. In this specific American Idol case, the record of African American sucess speaks for itself. Also, if you listen to Randy and Paula at all, they do not miss a chance to give props to African American singers. This country is going downhill fast with the absurd cries of racisim.
