The Top 5: Who's Your Idol Now?
The following contains spoiler information regarding American Idol's latest results show.
Holy Michael Johns, Batman! Idol was once again rocked by a surprise this week — especially considering the two weakest performances (Jason and Brooke) sat safely on the couch tonight. Instead, two of last night's finer performances somehow were unable to keep Syesha and Carly from the bottom two.
Syesha has been spending a lot of time at the bottom of our Power Rankings, but she had a very strong performance Tuesday. Carly likewise loosened up last night, delivering a rousing version of "Jesus Christ Superstar." But alas, Broadway week brought about the Irish lass' curtain call. Can you believe it? I think it's time for a lecture, America.
So now that we're down to five, who's your current pick to win American Idol? Vote here! — Adam Bryant
Tell us what you think of Carly getting booted and share any questions you'd like us to ask Carly in her TVGuide.com Q&A in the comments!

Given that 2 of the 5 left clearly should no longer be there, I'm already getting sick of watching. I can't stand Brooke or Jason. They are mediocre at best. If either one of them win, I think I'll skip next season.

Carley did not deserve to go last night. If this were actually a singing competition then she would still be there and Syesha would not be rated so low by fans. However, this year the fans have it all wrong. Jason and Brooke are the bottom two of the remaining five. Idol is getting a little boring. Do I hear a shark lurking near by?

Could it be that the voters want a true "American" Idol? Could that be why Michael Johns & Carly were voted off? I don't agree with the voters. Brooke should have gone last night!

Carly was my pick to leave, so I wasn't shocked. She's got good vocal chords, but obviously I was not the only person in America who could never connect to her. She certainly deserved to get to the top six, but once the show gets to this stage it's all about the fan base and who has the most fans.

After this week's travesty, not to mention the one two weeks ago with Michael Johns, I say that American Idol change their voting system to one more like Dancing with the Stars, where you get so many votes per phone line. That would make the whole competition much more fair and would encourage more people to vote towards the end when the lines are so crowded. Of coruse, then Ryan wouldn't get to stand up there and say they had 38 million viewers, etc. We all know that it's not that many viewers - it's how many times and how long they stay on the line to vote.

I still think Brooke has major potential in her niche. And every singer has a niche - or a niche that they are better in. I think she has lost her confidence. Carly should definitely not have gone last night imo. She is an amazing singer. And talk about not connecting. Syesha seems nice enough, but uggh, I cannot get any feeling from her. Tuesday night was the first performance I felt anything at all from her. Fine, you have a voice, but you need to connect. Sorry, but I wish she'd gone off weeks ago. And then Jason, and then Brooke. And then Carly. I think Brooke is sweet and likeable and that is why people vote for her - plus they've seen her rock it. She really can bring it. I hope she does better next week.

Brooke and Jason are hacks who got sympathy votes. They should have been ousted long ago.
Carly is one of the best singers from this season. She'll be successful. As for the rest of the lot...I'm not so sure.

I was so disappointed that (apparently) the teenagers with all the cell phones kept Jason in the mix. He seems like a nice enough guy, but his singing is really weak and it was demonstrated when he murdered Memory. I voted for Carly each week and have downloaded all her songs. To see her out of the competition under these circumstances is heartbreaking. I think AI should change their voting strategy, instead of being proud that "we got 38M votes last night."

I was quite surprised that Carly was sent home but I think I was more surprised on who ended up SAFE. Jason and Brooke will go nest and most likely in that order but they should have been long gone by now. We all know that this is a two person race between the two David's and we also know that when push come to shove and you have your final vote you are going to vote for the older David and not the young kid. Just my opinion.

Carly and her hideous painted arm that she forced upon us week after week was LONG overdue to be gone. Brooke has Kristy syndrome, staying on a few weeks later than she should. It's easy to see now that she'll leave next, followed by dredlock girlie boy Jason. I'd like to Sayesha in the Top 2 by having the trollesque Archuleta leave first. I think Sayesha would make a more passionate singer/winner than the too mellow faux-rocker David Cook.

I don't know what's wrong with the voters out there! Carly is an outstanding singer and I cannot believe she was voted off! STUPID!!!! As far as "Dredlocks", he should have been gone weeks ago. I don't know why he continues to stay in Simon's graces...any other singer who performed as he has, would have been ripped to shreds by Simon....I just don't get it!

Carly got voted out last night because of her song choice. "Jesus Christ Superstar" caused an uproar in the Bible belt when it first came out. Evidently Christians still have a voice.
