Top 10 Power Rankings: Are the Girls in Trouble?

"The Long and Winding Road" led David Archuleta back to the No. 1 spot in TVGuide.com's American Idol Power Rankings this week, as the lad bounced back from his setback and reminded the audience of his pure pipes. Still in the running, though, is last week's chart-topper, David Cook, who is just five percentage points behind.

Staying put in the No. 3 and 4 slots are Brooke White and Carly Smithson. The rest of the gals, meanwhile, are in a three-way tie for seventh place. Only Chikezie fared worse this week, returning to the cellar with less than one percent of your vote.

The Top 10 Power Rankings
31.3% David Archuleta
26.3% David Cook
12.7% Brooke White
11.9% Carly Smithson
8.1% Jason Castro
5.1% Michael Johns
1.2% Kristy Lee Cook
1.2% Ramiele Malubay
1.2% Syesha Mercado
0.9% Chikezie

Biggest Riser: Kristy Lee, up three spots
Biggest Slider: Chikezie, from eighth to last

What is your take on the latest rankings? Does a girl still stand a chance of winning this thing? Has Chikezie's bag of tricks run empty?

I guess you have to put someone there, but don't you think saying that KLC is the biggest rising is a bit misleading, especially since she's probably a hair away from being next to last.

Along those same lines, I could say that Syesha's vote total increased the most from last week, a whopping 100% (it was from .6% to 1.2%).

I think we know who the next 4 to go are going to be.

Looks to me that the poll is a very accurate assessment of who the favorites are (in general) for most people. I think both Davids are going to continue to move back and forth through out the coming weeks. They should easily be the top two contender's for the title of American Idol. I just hope the producer's don't force the idea of having to have both a male and a female as the top two, because it just wouldn't be fair.

Yes, a small liberty was taken there.

Looks to me that the poll is a very accurate assessment of who the favorites are (in general) for most people.

I'd love to know how a reader poll can be an inaccurate reflection of what the readers think...? Anyone? Bueller? - MWM

The front runners really do have a stranglehold on the ratings. No surprise there.

Just wondering what this week's theme is. That always has an impact. If it's Dolly Parton week, KLC will do well while David Cook may not.

The poll COULD be an inaccurate reflection of what the viewers think IF the viewers that are calling in to vote are NOT the same viewers that are taking the poll. I mean you'd think the votes could be comparable, and in some cases they seem to have proven to be, but if these poll takers are NOT getting on the phone and placing their vote calls then we can't think of it as completely accurate. Close maybe, but 100%????

What was the sample size? Knowing that is critical to knowing the accuracy of the results.

Biggest problem for all: Picking the wrong song. Reason: They pick songs that they like, instead of picking a song that 25 million viewers would like to hear. If Ramiele can pick the right songs, she could conceivably win it all.

Carly Smithson apparently is more popular with TV guide readers than she is with AI voters. She didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3 this last week.

I don't understand Kristy Lee Cook's rise in popularity. She doesn't sing well and has no stage presence to speak of. Out of the girls, I believe Carly has the best voice. Out of the guys, I think David Archuletta has the best voice. But my personal favorite to watch is David Cook. He's got a great voice, as well as a sexiness that's fun to watch, which makes him a great performer.

In my opinion David Cook will be the one with all the success out of this bunch even though just like Daughtry finished 4th he has exploded compared to Taylor the winner that year. And I think Simon is right if America goes by popularity Archuleta or White will win but by talent Cook is by FAR the BEST!

rvarela - good point. Look at Michael Johns and "A Day in the Life" and even Kady Malloy and "Who Wants to Live Forever" - songs that undoubtedly mean something to them, but the 1:20 arrangements fell flat.

However, how can you go wrong with "In My Life"? In fact, most people I know said they were looking forward to hearing someone sing it, so it should have had mass appeal.

I think this is the boy season. It was the time. David A is the best voice and he is a real talent.David C is also a great performer.
I will not be surprised with a finale between David A and David C or David A, Jason.
Jason has a strong fan base and his ranking is much higher.
Anyway, finale 5 can be David A, David C, Brooke, Jason and Ramiele.

David C. is creepy and arrogant. Take away that comb-over, you wouldn't think he was so sexy. David A. has the best voice. He's got this. ( and no, I'm not 17 either, try doubling that.)
