A Sneak Peek Inside Stargate's Ark of Truth
Michael Shanks and Claudia Black courtesy MGM
March 11th is D-Day for Stargate: Ark of Truth, the eagerly awaited made-for-DVD movie that ties up the storylines left dangling when the Sci Fi Channel cancelled the longest running series last June. "We hadn't really resolved the story," says producer-writer Robert C. Cooper, "so we felt a responsibility to wrap things up in the way they did with Farscape, when it came back as a miniseries."
TV Guide got a peek at the $7 million feature-length DVD-movie, and we're happy to share that it's all about SG-1's search for a fabled weapon that's reportedly the only chance to stop the Ori from taking over Earth. As if chief Ori Adria and her ilk don't provide enough danger, a creepy crawly from the past threatens the team on the USSS Odyssey from within. Keep your eye on guest star Currie Graham, the ubiquitous actor most recently seen on Men in Trees and Boston Legal. (And, yeah, Ben Browder fans, Lt. Col. Mitchell takes plenty of lumps.)
Although Ark concludes the series, at least one more 'Gate movie is just about finished. Continuum, which was made with Ark last spring, is a stand-alone story set in the Arctic. Richard Dean Anderson is back for this alternate time-line venture, where no Stargate program exists and the long-vanquished Goa-uld rule. "Hopefully these will demonstrate that we still have SG-1 stories to tell," Cooper says. That means more DVDs could be on the way, though there are no deals yet.
Sci Fi hasn't signed off on Stargate: Universe, Cooper and co-producer Brad Wright's third franchise entry, which will have a new setting yet allow for crossovers from the other series. In the meantime, Atlantis will be back for Season 5 this summer (probably July), and SG-1's Michael Shanks will make a two-episode visit mid-season. — Ileane Rudolph

I'm so looking forward to this DVD release and the completion of the Ori story line. I'm hoping this and Continuum do well so we can get more SG-1 movies.

I hope Browder finds some work elsewhere on TV....he's just too sexy not to be on my small screen.
P.S. I'm glad to see that Shanks is not forgetting the lesson he learned when he quit SG-1 a few years ago: Always know where your bread is buttered.

Does this mean FIFTH is coming back on the scene? INTERESTING!
I'm anxious to see this movie too. Long live SG-1!
What I find ironic is that they canceled SG-1 because the ratings (supposedly) were lower than Atlantis's and thet Sci-fi wanted to give Atlantis the spotlight. Well, the recent Altantis episode with Teal'c had some of the highest ratings of the season. That tells me folks want the original team together and not as much of the Teyla and Ronon (I-cannot-act-my-way-out-of-a-paper-bag)crap they put on every week.
Oh yeah, why are we supposed to care about Teyla finding her baby's father? We have no vested interest in him. We haven't seen her people for at least 2 seasons and yet we're supposed to feel her emotional turmoil? I don't think so. At least we had an opinion one way or the other when Pete Shanahan showed up on the scene to court Sam. I'm just sayin'...
Atlantis is in a whole new galaxy and yet we only see 3 villains (or allies) each week. (Wraith, Replicators and the Genii) Come on! SG-1 had more interactions in their first 5 seasons and had more fun doing it, too.
They've way underutilized Amanda Tapping. Good for her for moving on.
I can't wait for these two movies. Bring 'em on!

Colonel Carter will return when Tapping's new series fails. She was so much scenery on SG1, I was glad to see her get some spotlight on Atlantis.

SG-1 wasn't cancelled because of low ratings. It was cancelled because the Sci-Fi channel didn't OWN it, MGM did, so they had to pay licensing rights to MGM, which cut into their profits. On the other hand, Sci-Fi outright owns Atlantis, so it is more profitable, even with lower ratings. Oh, and the stars of Atlantis are no doubt cheaper than the stars of SG-1 were by the time they cancelled it, another reason Atlantis was more profitable for the Sci Fi channel.
That said, though, how interesting that they're rotating SG-1 stars in and out of Atlantis on a regular basis, eh?

I loved the Stargate SG1 series. I am looking forward to the new movies-especially the one with Richard Dean Anderson. There ARE so many more stories to be told. I am also glad that we are seeing some of them on Atlantis.

Wow! Finally a reason to watch Atlantis. I can't wait to see Michael Shanks as Daniel again. Great news. Any idea when Rage Of Angels will hit our screens?

Finally! I have been counting down the days to the release of this movie since my favorite tv series ever was canceled. Atlantis is okay, but it's no SG-1. Carry on SG-1, I'll be following wherever you lead!

I pre-ordered Ark of Truth as soon as it was available and I'm REALLY looking forward to watching it and the next film Continuum.
Although I have been enjoying the adventures of John, Rodney, Teyla, Ronon, Lorne, Zelenka and the rest on Atlantis this season, I still miss Stargate SG-1. It was GREAT to see Teal'c show up in the Pegasus Galaxy and I'm really excited about Daniel's upcoming visit in Season 5.
I hope the Stargate SG-1 movies are a hit so that they decide to keep making them!

Michael Shanks may have left & then returned but his bread got buttered both sides, with the same role, with more 'bite' and a better credit!
And yes, even more reason to watch S 5 of Atlantis with an appearance from THE expert on the ancients!

Well not before time! How could they leave the story line where is and not complete the series? It was a huge insult to us there fans and I have followed this series from the first program and I have ordered the film and I eagerly await its arrival and the bonus is that I have just found out that there is another film on the way – ABOUT TIME! What were they thinking cancelling this program? What would have happened it that had cancelled Star Trek – Woops giving away my age now?
I’ll be in peace soon once the film arrives
