Jeers to the Emmys! Vincent D’Onofrio should have been nominated for his Emmy-worthy performance in the “Untethered” episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The Emmys also snubbed him last year for “Endgame.” D’Onofrio is such a talented actor, and his portrayal of Detective Robert Goren is so worthy of an Emmy. Why do the Emmys overlook such extremely wonderful talent?

Please note: Cheers & Jeers will be on vacation until Monday, Aug. 4.

Of course, I whole-heartedly agree. But, I am a little biased. LO:CI is my favorite show and Vincent D'Onofrio is my favorite actor. However, I also agree in general that I'm usually disappointed in the Emmy nominations. I have nothing against Tony Shaloub and Markiska Hargitay. They are both fine actors and they deserved their Emmys, but how many times do they have to be nominated? They are just two examples of how the Emmys and other award shows get stuck in a rut and nominate the same people over and over again.

To use Tony Shaloub as an example, he has been playing basically the same character for years and Monk has not really evolved. He's still the same quirky, obsessive-compulsive, uber-needy character we all know and love. On the other hand D'Onofrio's Goren has recently gone through several personal crises and he is not the same man he was in the early episodes. I personally think once an actor has won an Emmy or two they shouldn't be nominated again to give others a chance.

i so agree too, but i disagree with mimjlm in distinguishing that vincent is not playing the same character while tony shaloub is. they both are, and i love them both. but there is a depth to vincent's character in certain episodes that is going unnoticed, like when he checked into the mental hospital. scenes with his mother where he had to hold back his anger. so many of us know what that is/was like. an amazing actor that i feel has some hollywood baggage he is punished for. like anything else, you have to be part of the group or so hard to be overlooked to get recognized. sad, so sad.

Vincent is a fantastic actor. I love the way you can see Bobby's mind work when he is solving a case. My favorite episodes were the ones that showcased his relationship with his mother or his interaction with Olivia d'Abo's character Nicole Wallace. He is the reason I watch Criminal Intent.

Overlooking the great work D'Onfrio has done in L&O:CI is, to quote froom the intro to one of its sister shows, especially heinous.

I, too, was disappointed but not really surprised that he was snubbed once again. He should have several noms for his exceptional work on CI by now. Just goes to show that the Emmys, like Oscars, are not at all about most talented or deserving.

Why do they always overlook such talent? Because it's what the Emmys do! How else do you explain the constant (and tiresome) repeat of nominations every year and those shows which are blatantly ignored. I saw nearly every episode of Gilmore Girls and do you think their work was ever acknowledged? Of course not so why should Criminal Intent be any different.

There are several other actors who have stronger beefs about being overlooked than VD. Matthew Fox from Lost and Kyle Chandler from Friday Night Lights for starters. When CI first came on the air, I thought D'Onofrio was terrific and nomination-worthy. But as the years have gone on, his performances have become more mannered and stilted. And the character has juts become insufferable. The guy is juts an expert on absolutely everything.

"Eames, the female Nigerian quilting beetle will only mate between june 15th and July 8th provided the temperature is above 102.6 degrees. So we are looking at the wrong guy."

Jeers...Jeers...Jeers...!!! It's so hard to lose hope...Even when your dreams are shattered over and over again...Last year Tony Shalhoub literally asked the Emmy voters to "open their hearts"...!! I was planning on asking them to
“ open their MINDS and their EYES" so maybe -just maybe- they could see Mr. "D'Onofrio's talent and -above that- hard work, year after year after year...But then something dawned on me: "Eureka!!!! They're wiser than us normal people! They're the experts, the "know-alls"!! They've got a plan too: Ignoring Vincent for some twenty more years, then giving him a "Lifetime Achievement Award"!!!!! Superb now, isn't it?!! It's like: "Um...Dude; we always kinda liked ya; we know you were better; but we liked the others BETTER....!!!! Now, there you are... No hard feelings; eh?".....If you don't believe me, just look back and name all the genuine talents that've been treated this way.....I just wish that somehow Vincent comes across these comments, and has the time- and the patience!- to read them, and just know that "people understand"...

Sad to say the Emmys or the ONLYS as I like to call them[as in only certain people can get them] has been getting decidely worse year after year. It's almost as bad as the presidential race or 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' who wants to see the same old people win over and over again to the point of where even THEY are sick of it?!! Not me they'll porbably nominate and give it to "The Sopranos" again and the show is not even ON anymore!! Pathetic I hate the Emmys.

I agree that it is a major screw-up for overlooking Mr. D'Onofrio's amazing talent AGAIN this year. I know that he teaches acting...maybe he'd be better off teaching newcomers to follow in his footsteps because IMO, he is one of a kind, an actor whose depth and range is amazing. I admit that I only watch the L&O:CI episodes with his character. I don't waste my time with the other characters. I join y'all in applauding his performance in the "Untethered" episode and all the other episodes where he shines.
