Timothy Olyphant in Samantha Who? by Randy Holmes/ABC

Cheers to Timothy Olyphant for proving there's life after Deadwood. The ex-sheriff brought the same intense commitment to his comic role as Christina Applegate's new love interest on Samantha Who? that he did to HBO's late, great Western. As billionaire Winston Funk, Olyphant oozed charm, despite an oddly close-cropped haircut (is he keeping it short in hopes of reprising his role as the chrome-domed assassin in a Hitman sequel?). Applegate's amnesiac may have turned down his character's marriage proposal, but Olyphant fans certainly hope she doesn't forget him all over again.

I think he had really short hair in die hard 4 too. I really don't like him that much but he plays a great bad guy. (Haven't seen samantha who since a couple of episodes in.)

It wasn't THAT short in Die Hard. Plus, didn't he get killed in that movie? I doubt he'd come back for a sequel...

Maybe he is waiting for the role of the new brother on Prison Break. He was good on the show last night I hope they bring him back.

This is making me nuts but I haven't seen anyone mention it: Doesn't Timothy Olyphant look almost exactly like Barry Watson? When the show first started, I kept referring to Watson as Olyphant because the resemblance was so striking. (My husband thinks so, too, and he's a casting director who works in film and TV.) When I heard Olyphant was cast, I thought for sure he'd play Watson's brother. But having him be a completely unrelated character and Watson's rival just makes it SO distracting for me and the hubby! We kept thinking, "It doesn't matter who Sam chooses because they look the same! She has exactly one type!"

I like Olyphant but, to me, not having anyone on the show mention the resemblance is like ignoring the white elephant in the room. I wonder if the cropped hair was a way to make Olyphant look slightly different but, for me, it became its own distraction.

I never thought about it, but now that you mention it, he does kinda look like Barry Watson.

Timothy Olyphant rocked on Samatha Who! I could't wait to see this episode. This guys rocks, I love him. While he does remind me of Barry Watson they are both hot in their own right. I hope Wiston Funk is around for along time.

I definitely think the hair cut is so he doesn't look so much like Watson. Loved them both, who wouldn't want that choice.

Loved him last night on Who? Didn't find him that attractive until I saw a picture of him w/hair and OMG!!!! He is gorgeous! And with hair, yes, he does look a lot like Barry Watson. Samantha can't go wrong either way!!!

sistagirl: I TOTALLY agree. I have always confused those 2 guys. Even though he looks weird with the short hair, I'm glad he has it that way. At least I can tell them apart!

Maybe I don't see the resemblance because I kinda grew up watching 7th heaven so I've known who barry watson was since 1996 and the first time I remember seeing olyphant was in die hard 4. (I have seen other movies with him before I saw die hard 4, just never noticed him, I guess) -sorry for the bad grammar there

You are so right. He does look like Barry Watson with the hair. I loved both guys in last night's episode with Barry winning my personal race. But now that I've seen Timothy with hair and they look so alike, it's a hard choice.
