Jeers: Seems Like Old Times?

080401cheers-christine.jpg
Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander by Monty Brinton/CBS
Jeers to The New Adventures of Old Christine for blowing a Seinfeld reunion. It was great to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Jason Alexander together again — but if you blinked, you could've missed it. The ex-costars had only two brief scenes together, at the beginning and end of the CBS sitcom's third-season finale. Couldn't they have written a better (or at least bigger) role for Alexander than Louis-Dreyfus' gynecologist? I hate to say it, but this bit of stunt-casting was much ado about nothing.

Cheers to How I Met Your Mother with another classic episode last night and the ensuing TedMosbyisaJerk.com website that delivered the funniest 20 minute audio (where the girl sang a song to Ted while being batsh*t crazy).

Was it stunt casting? I actually had not heard anything about it until I read the Hot List for Monday night. I only watch CBS on Monday nights so I never see the previews I guess.

While Jason may not have had a whole lot of screen time last night the scenes he and Julia did together were perfect.

More is not always better.

Hate to disagree with a TV Guide Jeers moment, but there are indeed times when Less Is More. When I heard he was to be on it, I was SO AFRAID they would drag him in as yet another in her long, long line of failed relationships, but I LOVED that he was her Ob/Gyn and the relationship that gave them - plus her obvious and most Christine-like unwillingness to actually LISTEN to the man! I thoroughly enjoyed it & it was just exactly right.

I was also thrilled that he wasn't playing yet ANOTHER version of George - he was actually ACTING!! Didn't know he had it in him, after seeing him do "George" so many, many times lately. Good for you Jason, and mongo good for you writers and producers of Christine.

I suppose if the reason I tuned into the show was for the mini-Seinfeld reunion, I might ant to jeer it; but the reason I tune into Old Christine is because it is the most consistently funny sitcom on TV this season (IMO). I have to agree with those who have already posted that the Goldilocks rule applies here. Jason's bookending appearances in the episode were juuuussst right. :)

It's only a 30-minute program. I thought Jason Alexander's part was quite appropriate, and very funny. The beginning and the end.
