Office sure was painful, but still a solid episode.
You can't really fault them for starting with an episode that left out most of the cast since that episode was written before the strike and was intended to be just another episode, not the first episode back from a long break.
And I'm fine with Jim and Pam being happy, nothing annoys me more on tv shows than creating obstacles just to keep them apart and drag out the courtship.
It was annoying with Ross and Rachel, and it is annoying in pretty much every other show that does it. I'd love to see the Office just let them be a happy couple and let the soap opera elements move to Dwight/Angela/Andy and Michael/Jan.
