Cheers: America's Sweetheart

Cheers to America's Got Talent for saving the best for last — and living up to its name. The final act of the NBC show's overlong Season 3 opener, Neal E. Boyd, blew the roof off the joint. The 32-year-old insurance salesman from Missouri belted out Puccini's "Nessa Dorma" like the love child of Ruben Studdard and Luciano Pavarotti. I could've done without the weepy backstory about being raised by a single mom, but there's no denying Boyd's got a gift. If only I could say the same for that cross-dressing Britney Spears impressionist.

I agree - he sounded to me like he had an amazing voice - but of course I am just an ordinary citizen and not a music critic.

It just doesn't sit right with me that this guy can sing like that without some kind of training in his background...

I was waiting to see America's Got Talent season opener last week, but what I saw was a rip-off of last year's British version.

1. Both featured a non-hunky salesman who belted-out opera ... specifically Puccini's "Nessa Dorma." Need I mention Paul Potts?

2. Both featured a cute little four or five year-old girl who sang a classic hollywood song. The British girl sang "Somewhere over the Rainbow," and, though the American sang a different song, the producers played "Rainbow" with her exit.

3. Both featured a teenaged boy baton twirler who overcame the ridicule of his peers with his family's support to master a typically non-male art (read Billy Elliot Story.)

What are the chances that these acts (the British versions of which received massive amounts of You-tube video hits) could have coincidental matching counterparts on both sides of the pond?

I only hope that the producers of the American version got this done and out of the way and that next week we will see more original talent.

Does anyone recall that the cross-dressing Britney Spears impressionist was on last season's ABC show "The Next Best Thing?"

He was the cross-dressing Britney Spears impressionist then, too.

Does anyone watch this garbage show anymore?

After people whose main talent is singing won the first 2 seasons. I gave up.
