Jeers: Top Model Far from Super

Tyra Banks by Eric Liebowitz/The CW
Jeers to America's Next Top Model for desperately needing a makeover. The twist for the 10th(!) cycle of Tyra Banks' CW reality show is... it's moving back to New York City. Sorry, that's not enough. Especially when it feels like we've seen all these wannabes before — inner-city tough girl Marvita ("Bitch, if you touch me, you gonna die"), filterless freak Amis ("You guys want to see my pubic hair?"), plus-size diva Whitney ("I am me, and if you don't like it, you can go suck an egg!"). It's time for an all-star or a celebrity edition or a plus-size-only throwdown to freshen the formula. This season's biggest surprise is fey Jay Manuel's emergence as an unlikely sex symbol: Stacy-Ann even gave him a lapdance. Sorry, Tyra, but it's back to the drawing board — and you better work!

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the new crop of contestants! Did they pick only the girls who needed a makeover? is the theme of this season 'transformation'? These girls look haggard!

Tyra take note: A plus-size throwdown for next season would be fantabulous!

Yeah, it is a weathered-looking bunch. But I guess after Lindsay Lohan's NY Mag photos, the haggard look is in...

I wouldn't want to see a plus-size addition of Top Model. Tyra would screw that up as she does the regular version. C10's current plussie isn't even plus size if you believe her (size 8). Anyone thinking Tyra would actually find 13-14 girls who were between size 10-14, proportionately shaped (hourglass figures), toned, etc is dreaming. Not to mention the emotional battery these girls would be subjected to. As for an all-star edition. Who would they get? The girls who have legit careers going tend to stay away from Tyra usually at the advice of their agencies (Elyse, Mollie Sue, Nicole, Eugena, etc). Who does that leave? Moving back to New York is nice but next cycle will see them back in L.A. so it's not permanent as they'll be going back and forth for the next five cycles. A better change would be if she was actually looking for models who had a shot at a legit career. Meaning no one over the age of 21, no one under 5'8" (heck even C1 had girls no shorter than 5'9"). No quasi plus sizes. Also, girls who actually fit the standards set by the industry and who have symmetrical facial features. Also, it would be nice if they got actual training! Alas, none of that will happen and not just because the audience whether they admit it or not wants the drama but because this show fell off the tracks a long time ago and has managed to be the CW's most successful show regardless of how ridic it is and Tyra knows it's really all about her anyway.

A plus size can be a size 8 at minimum, size 18 maximum. The ideal is between size 10-12(14). Tyra's last two picks (C9 and C10) have according to them anyway been size 8. Even then, you still have to fit certain standards which in most cases, Tyra's picks don't.

Cheers to this Jeer- I coulnt agree more. Cycle 1 was the only cycle that came close to making sense. Back then it seemed like Adrian Curry could have a career. At least Elyse still does. And they sort of had challenges that were about learning something, and they went to Paris where fashion actually happens.

I agree with the previous poster(s) who said they need to pick girls with a real chance of modeling in the real world, and they need to have real learning experiences, not just challenges that make as many girls cry as possible.

Also, if the makeovers go like they did last year, I might stop watching altoghter. The idea is to make them look better, right? Tyra should take some tips from Nikki Taylor and Petra Nemkova, who seem to be able to run respectable modeling shows with a modicum of credibility.

The idea of a makeover is to make the girls look as close to normal as possible, lol. They shouldn't have weird hair colors or weird cuts. She should only be improving upon what they have. If she wants to give the black girls weaves then fine since most agencies do prefer long straight hair regardless of ethnicity since it gives the people working with the hair more options. Tyra's makeovers are done merely to traumatize and get a reaction.

If there was a celebrity version of AMNTM it would probably just be a collection of the same type of D-listers and has beens who typically populate "celebrity edition" reality shows. Those are usually the only people who even bother with this sort of thing.

Besides, I don't think Tyra's ego could handle having to share the spotlight with people who are just as if not more famous than her.

What about Top Model: All Star Edition? Take contestants from previous "cycles" and have them compete. Put Crazy Lisa, Sassy Toccara, Bible Thumping Robyn, Skanky Shandi, and Cry Baby Katie all in the same house and watch the fur fly! The prize? $1 Million dollars and Tyra's job!
