Cheers: Hitting the Mother Code

Neil Patrick Harris by Sonja Flemming/CBS
Cheers to How I Met Your Mother for respecting the "Bro Code." When Barney slept with his buddy Ted's ex, Robin, I worried the sitcom might just laugh it off. But by violating Article 1 of the sacred guy rules (laid down by his ancestor, Barnabas Stinson, in an uproarious Revolutionary War-era flashback), Neil Patrick Harris' hounddog really screwed — and may have lost — his self-proclaimed best friend forever. Can Ted forgive him? Guess we'll have to, as Barney might say, wait for it....

Who voted Jump the Shark? I thought that might be the case initially, but by the end of the episode, I thought they'd justified the plot twist. But what was with the cryptic reference to Robin moving into the apartment a year later?

I agree with your cheer, but personally I believe Robin and Barney are made for each other and will eventually end up together.

I have to admit, I didn't get that twist at the end with the goat? Bruce, is that when Robin moving in was mentioned? Something zoomed over my head in that moment. Oh, wait! I just realized it's coming up on the west coast feed. I'll watch it again!

However, I completely agree with you. I loved this episode. I laughed all the way through!

Darn. I just missed the goat reference! Dang. Oh well, it's repeated a week later on one of the stations I get, so I'll watch it again next Monday. (Am I writing all of this down? How boring for you!)

The story had to do with the goat eating one of Robin's washcloths, then Future Ted remembered it happened on his 31st birthday after Robin moved into the apartment.

I think the idea was that he initially remembered the washcloth being Robin's, but it actually belongs to someone else who he is living with one year in the future.

He said something like "chewing on Robin's washcloth, oh wait Robin wasn't living with me then, it must of been my 31st birthday." Could be taken as Robin was living with him at 31 (roommates?) or the washcloth belonged to someone besides Robin.

Ahhhh, I didn't hear the part about her moving in, because I was processing the goat twist. So, does that mean the goat stuff was mistakenly inserted into the story by future-Ted? Was the stuff involving the rooftop party and Ted finding out about Barney and Robin his 30th ir his 31st? I'm very confused.

By the way, about the JTS vote, I think some people take some strange pleasure in voting like idiots. (Insert Bush joke here.)

This is the one show that has been better--in quality and ratings wise--since the strike ended. I almost feel that CBS doesn't announce the pickups of their buzzworthy shows early in order for people to talk about them more. But I think it is safe to say that HIMYM will be back.

I personally feel that not everything shown on the air is always a part of future Ted's stories. I think he tells the kids a basic story and we just get to see the details as the audience. He cannot have exact recollection of things that happened twenty years ago especially when he was not around such as with the goat on the roof. Since he was thinking the goat was around on his 30th bday he just subconsciously inserted it into his mind.

I am guessing they wanted a silly cliff hanger to get people to have random questions about next season so there will be a next season in regards to the goat. Like people wondering, to Ted and Robin get back together, uh-hoh. What I am more guessing is that Ted and Stella move in together somewhere (maybe oddly into Barney's building, just because I understand we are going to be carrying on the fight at least until Britney's reappearance in late May) and Robin is invited to move in with Marshall and Lily since they couldn't afford to live there just on Lily's kindergarten teacher salary (though, based on the kids last night, she seems to teach at a private school, so I am guessing get paid more then we would think).
