Cheers: Lost — The Sun Also Rises
Yunjin Kim in Lost by Bob D'Amico/ABC
Cheers to Lost for choosing one of my favorite castaways, Sun (Yunjin Kim), as the last of the Oceanic Six. The bilingual actress delivered an Emmy-worthy performance in a brilliantly structured episode revealing that her character made it safely off the island and gave birth to a daughter, Ji Yeon. For a while, it looked like her husband, Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), also survived, until his mad dash to the hospital — with stuffed panda in tow — turned out to be a flashback, not a flash-forward. But is he really dead? All I know is, during the hour's final scene, when Sun brought the baby to her father's grave, well, I Lost it.

Me too, Bruce. What a cruel, but brilliant, hoax they played on us. I was heartbroken when I saw Jin's grave. I agree with you on Yujin Kim's performance; it was as fine as anything I've seen on television this season.

Is Jin really dead?
His gravestone gave date of death as September 2004...which is when the plane crashed.
But we know that Jin survived till at least after Christmas 2004/into early 2005.
Is he dead? Did they agree to fabricate his death concurrent with the "drowned" version of Oceanic 815.
At this point, I'm not 100% sure anyone is dead...what with Jack's dad popping up in the pilot and Charley dropping in on Hurley. But now, with the made up death date, I'm least sure Jin is dead.

MarkH--Good point about the date on the gravestone. But why would Sun need to deceive Hurley into believing Jin was dead? Guess we'll have to stay tuned. At least we know we haven't seen the last of Daniel Dae Kim, since he's still alive on the island. I thought Jin's transformation into a loving, forgiving spouse (shades of Silda Spitzer!) made his apparent demise even more poignant.

Well, Ausiello did say this character was supposed to be dead for real. Maybe he was killed at some point before Sun got off of the island and to stick to the "story" of who survived, they are using the crash date.
Or maybe he is alive but they have to pretend he's dead in case they are being watched for some reason??

Amazing, amazing episode. I'm pretty astonished at how great the season has been, and how many answers and twists they've managed to get in.
I'm convinced that Jin is alive, based on the tombstone showing that he died the date of the plane crash. That's a lie, so I'll bet the idea that he's dead at all is a lie as well.
I don't think Sun or Hurley thinks Jin is dead, neither actually comes out and says it - she just says things like she misses him and she wishes he was here. She's just going to the cemetery to have a reminder of her husband who is missing, not dead.
Just a crazy episode, not only did they hoax us by making us think Jin was in the O6, they double hoaxed us by making us think he's dead but dropping a subtle hint that he's probably still alive. Genius stuff, this show sure as hell BETTER win the drama emmy next time around. This is as good as TV gets.

Isn't there suppose to be six of the Oceanic Six because all I see is five: Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sayid and, of course, Sun. Where is the six? Can someone tell me because Bruce said that Sun was the last of the Oceanic Six to be revealed?

Claire's baby would be No. 6. And the ABC promos said the last of the Oceanic Six would be revealed.

Cheers to the writers and producers for changing the show up a bit this year and making it fresh again. So many were tired of the old flashbacks. Last season's finale they went above and beyond with this new approach. Now, this episode even conquers that.

If Jin "died" in the crash and Sun became pregnant after the crash, how was that explained?

Cindy, they probably just said that she was pregnant before the crash.

Someone actually voted "jump the shark" on this?

Crazy. Someone actually thought: "this show will never be the same now that Sun made it off the island."

But why would Sun need to deceive Hurley into believing Jin was dead?
In my opinion, Hurley knows all about Jin being left on the island. It's all part of the Oceanic 6 coverup, which as we saw included a fake Flight 815 on the ocean floor filled with dead bodies.

Absolutely. Jack lied under oath, Hurley told a cop he never met Anna Lucia.
All the O6 folk are lying and giving a story that they either came up with collectively or were given by someone in a position of power.
