Reader's Cheer of the Week: Lost's Secret Weapon

Cheers to Kevin Durand for his chilling portrayal of Sgt. Martin Keamy on Lost. Love him or hate him, nobody is neutral when it comes to Keamy, which is the hallmark of a well-played villain. Even the camera seems to linger on Durand, who conveys malice with just a look or tilt of his head. This role should give Durand's career a well-deserved boost... without having to hide behind the dog/man makeup he wore in Dark Angel.

Oh I agree! He was so evil in this show but you couldn't take your eyes off of him. Why is it the more evil the character, the more we watch? But hopefully, we haven't seen the last of him, with Lost's history of flashbacks and "Deadies" popping back up in the future.

I agree 100% with you. He was a fantastic character and just for the record....I hated him. That's some good acting!

OH MY GOODNESS!

I SO didn't recognize him from Dark Angel. Of course there was no way to recognize him but I knew I knew the name but couldn't place where I knew it from (and determined not to look it up to find out).

Oh, I'm in the loathe column - he was (is?) so over the top evil.
Great job Kevin for playing Keamy so well that it was easy to hate him.

I definitely agree. His complete focus on capturing Ben at any cost was portrayed with such intensity that I was completely drawn into his character. Not to mention - he was just plain hot! I hope we get to see him again.

Kevin Durand was also in the movie Smokin' Aces (along with Matthew Fox and Nestor Carbonell) and he played a really evil character. Except this character was far more deranged and much scarier. I recommend this movie, especially to LOST fans who might find it humorous to see LOST characters interacting with each other in a totally different setting and plot.
Cheers all the way for KD - he did a great job on LOST.

He was also in 3:10 to Yuma where his character has something in common with Keamy.

He also had a recurring role on Stargate: SG1. I also remember him in The Butterfly Effect.

I was super excited when I first saw him on the boat. I thought he was great in Smokin' Aces and 3:10 to Yuma, and I new he would be great here. He definitely didn't disappoint, and made Ben's prediction true about the freighter people being worse than he was.

Kevin Durand was also in Wild Hogs and Austin Powers 2.

Durand was terrific as Keamy--scared the crap out of me. He would be great as a bad something or other on Supernatural--I'd love to see him tangle with the new powerful Sam Winchester next season (sadly, we don't yet know what's going to be up with Dean).

You're right, anybody that could make you hate him as much as he had me going (and I'm sure most viewers) HAS TO BE DOING A GREAT JOB! Was SO GLAD he was killed!! AND he really did have "the look" so that it was UGH, I DON'T like this guy!!

I worked as a PA on almost the entire second season of Dark Angel, and Kevin Durand was far and away the nicest more down to earth actor on that show. He always had a moment to spare and was really just a good guy. Even to us peons on set with him. He really make a great impression, and I'm stoked to see his career look like its finally going to hit the bigtime. He totally deserves it. Good for him.
