Jeers: Andrew McCarthy Gets Lost in Jungle

080208cheers-Andrew-McCarthy.jpg
Andrew McCarthy by Nicole Rivelli/NBC
Jeers to Lipstick Jungle for miscasting Andrew McCarthy as Joe Bennett, the billionaire who romances fashion designer Victory Ford (Lindsay Price). In Sex and the City scribe Candace Bushnell’s excruciatingly self-derivative new NBC dramedy, Mr. Bennett seems like a Mr. Big wannabe. But with his diffident, charisma-free performance, ex-Brat Packer McCarthy (Pretty in Pink) seems more like Mr. Medium-Size.

I looked up "crap" in the dictionary and all I got was a description of this show. Who knew?

No offense Bruce but you say this as if you are somehow surprised that McCarthey was bad. When I see a duck I expect it to quack. When I see a dog I expect it to bark (or hump my leg on occasion, but I digress). And when I see A. McCarthy I expect him to suck. The guy was out-acted by a corpse in "Weekend at Bernie's" and by a mannequin in "Mannequin".

I just saw a clip of the scene where Kim Raver's boy-toy was writing his phone number on her knee and she was acting like she was using the "When Harry Met Sally" scene in the diner as her audition scene.

I agree with prymoldlady that this show is a lot like Cashmere Mafia. However, I find that I enjoy CM more than LJ - maybe because it came first? Or maybe because I love Lucy Liu...

I thought the phone # on the leg was kinda sexy, but don't tell my husband! :-D

well i watched it and was not impressed at all...i feel like there's been a complete miscast, i kept looking for the spunk, for the za za zoom(as carrie would put it) that je-ne-sais-quoi that makes u tick and say hey i love this show...,

it was all a bit boring , on 3 characters two r married ,that's limiting ur pôssibilities storywise..and andrew mccarthy,i'll always love him in pretty in pink, but he's lost his baby cheeks along with his acting skills..tough!
what exactly are we supposed to be rooting for in this show, maybe i should read the book 1st then see what went wrong with the tv adaptation ,this is gonna be a hard sell,as its a network channel there's only so much they can show, so of course it's gonna paled compared to sex&the city on hbo!

i think i'll check out cashmere mafia coz i do like lucy liu,SHE HAS A FACE!that exudes personality cant say the same about these three!

Oh, that's too harsh on Andrew McCarthy. He's not that bad. I think they're just trying to hit the gold that Greys Anatomy did with Patrick Dempsey. Take geeky 80s teen actor and see how nice he grew up into good looking man. Who knew?

Wow! I could not DISAGREE more!!! I TiVOed the Lipstick Jungle pilot and watched it later that night... I absolutely loved Andrew McCarthy..!!! Their 1st date and the way the relationship is progressing is so-o-o-o much like my dating experiences... I have watched the last 10 minutes about 12 times (where HE actually walks out to meet the plane and tells her that he doesn't "do that for anybody"...) He reminds me of some of the most romantic sexy men I have known and dated... He's so hot!!!!

I think your Jeer is directed toward the wrong person/thing. The Jeer should be for the entire show b/c it's not great, just like Cashmere Mafia. So you're asking, why do I watch every week anyway, and why will I watch Lipstick Jungle this week? It's just so bad that I have to watch it, I guess. :)
