Cheers: Sawyer Makes a Splash
Josh Holloway in Lost by Mario Perez/ABC
Cheers to Lost's thrilling season finale for showing us Sawyer's best side (and no, I'm not talking about his backside). I've never been sure if Josh Holloway's ex-grifter was a good guy — until he jumped off the 'copter to save enough fuel for the Oceanic 6 to reach the freighter before it exploded. (Wouldn't it have saved more fuel if Hurley had jumped? Just asking.) Before he leaped, Sawyer asked Kate to make a promise (any guesses?), then planted a sweaty, stubbly kiss on her. The producers' motivation for Sawyer's selfless act wasn't entirely noble: It allowed them to shoot a scene of a shirtless Holloway swimming ashore. Those guys are no dummies.

My guess about the promise is that Kate is supposed to make sure that Sawyer's daughter Clementine is well and happy.
Sure, maybe it would have saved more fuel if Hurley jumped, but would Hurley have been able to swim back to shore? Plus, Sawyer wasn't one of the O6, so I knew that his being on the 'copter wouldn't last.
I wasn't much of a Sawyer fan when the show started, but he (and Josh Holloway) have won me over to his side in the intervening seasons.

One of the few times I regret having a DVR. I don't mind Sawyer having his shirt off but when my sister has control of the remote seeing Josh come out of the water got real tired after the 3rd replay.

I think the real Cheer here (among many in the fine finale) should be for Yunjin Kim. Every season she has been fantastic, but last night was her best yet. She is not only stunningly beautiful and talented, but thanks to the writing she has become far and away my favorite character on the show.

I think the secret probably has something to do with Sawyer's daughter.
Nick... I'm with you 100%. Yunjin Kim is all kinds of awesome, and she was especially incredible last night.

Sawyer never really wanted to leave the island and the only reason he was in the helicopter was because Kate was. That was why Sawyer stayed with Locke so long - they both never wanted to leave. THAT IS WHY SAWYER JUMPED OFF OF THE HELICOPTER!

I agree about Yunjin Kim--she should get an Emmy nomination this year.

I agree with everyone about Yunjin Kin. She was incredible last night. In her scenes on the island, in the helicopter, and back home when she confronted the man behind everything. I actually was worried that either Sawyer would be one of the casualties of the night, or that they would not let us know his fate until next season. This was one of the best episodes of Lost in my opinion, if not THE best. Is it January yet?

Ranger99- Sawyer wanted to stay on the island when everything was hunky dory and they were living a nice little life in Othertown. Now after being almost blown up, shot at, losing friends, etc. I think he is probably now ready to go home.

I don't believe that the only reason Sawyer jumped from the helicopter was because he didn't want to leave the Island.
We've seen Sawyer, numerous times this season, risk his life for others. For example, when the freighter people were blowing up Otherton and he left the safety of Ben's house to try and save Claire. Or when He, Miles, and Aaron we walking back towards the beach and ran into Jack and Kate. Sawyer wanted to go back to the beach but instead, his conscious would not allow him to let Jack go alone to face the freighter people. So he ran after Jack instead of going back to the beach.
When he walked out of the ocean last night and then smiled and showed his dimples - well, he rocked it!

Sawyer made it clear to Kate while he was living in New Otherton that he had no desire to return home as there was nothing there for him. It was a great, heroic scene though !
Just wish I knew where Rose and Bernard are !

Awww, that was kinda mean, especially since they showed Hurley's face, and he looked SO guilty because he knew he was the heaviest and should have gotten off, but the poster who noted that he never would've made back to shore is entirely correct. Like I wrote on Trish's recap, I seriously thought I was gonna melt off my couch during Josh Holloway's shirtless scene. And those dimples--mmm-mmm-MMMH!!! I also was afraid that Sawyer would be one of the original characters to die, because that fall looked so high, but I was sooooo glad he made it to shore.
Bruce, I think you're gonna need to post another Cheer for Yunjin Kim, 'cause she truly did knock it outta the park in the finale. She was phenomenal, and I'm getting chills just think about it again. My husband had to miss it, and when I told him all about it this morning, I even teared up, just remembering her powerful scenes.
But back to Sawyer, I also agree he's come along way from the jerk he was back in S1. Can't wait to see how his character is developed further, especially since he's going to be assuming that Kate died in the freighter explosion.

I was afraid the island was going to "move" while Sawyer was still in the water and he would be one of the deaths because he'd be floating around in the water with nowhere to go!
