Jeers: A Less-Than-Rosie Nip/Tuck
Rosie O'Donnell by Michael Becker/FX
Jeers to Nip/Tuck for going way over the top — and hitting rock bottom. After a promising start to its Hollywood season, FX's plastic-surgery drama has lost its, uh, mind again. It began with Paula Marshall's repulsive diarrhea-in-a-hot-tub scene (clearly "inspired" by a notorious viral-video clip). And it only got crappier with Rosie O'Donnell's return as Dawn Budge, who was attacked by an eagle while hang-gliding(!), had her mouth sewn shut (now there's an idea), was violated by an "ass bandit" (don't ask), then fell in love with ambiguously gay producer Freddy Prune (Oliver Platt). Add a buxom nun, Christian turning tricks with a hypothermia nut, and Sean lusting after his ex-wife's lesbian lover's bulimia-teaching teen daughter, and you've got enough freaks for a week's worth of Jerry Springer Shows. Bring back the Carver!

I completely agree! The first 2 episodes this season were so much fun. These last 2, not at all. A little gross is OK; but this show is now way over the top, and not in a good way. I'm almost at the point at giving up.

That's the problem with a show that trafficks in outrageousness--it has to keep topping itself, and eventually it goes too far over-the-top. I thought by shifting the show to L.A. and turning into more of a showbiz satire, Nip/Tuck could avoid that pitfall, but it's back to its old, gross ways.

I disagree. Last night's epsiode wasn't that great, but it had it's moment. The show is still good to me. I'm enjoying the heck out of it.

Which moment was that? I must've missed it.

To each his own, but...... Obviously you weren't watching the same show I was. If ya were, you really need a sense of humor. I love Rosie & her character Dawn Budge. As for the hot tub scene last week, that's real. That kind of stuff happens in real life. Good for them to inform people of that problem. I think this will be by far the best season of N/T. I'll gladly take last night's show over the Carver any day! I give the show a Cheer.

Do you seriously think they did that hot-tub scene to inform people of a real-life problem, and not just for cheap shock value?

My husband and I watched the first couple of seasons RELIGIOUSLY, but now we couldn't even tell you what night of the week it's on. The show got way to gross and twisted for our taste.

Oh come on...I know you get paid to come up with articles that will get people talking and reading, but aren't we taking this a little far?
Nip/Tuck is what it's always been and what "loyal" fans keep coming back for - - it's sexy, outrageous, funny, cinematically pretty, and (yes, at times) frustrating.
When I want moving stories, I watch Friday Night Lights or maybe ER; humor/romance, Chuck or The Office; adventure/scifi, Journeyman or Heroes. When I want to escape into lunacy with the sexiest people on TV (more Kelly Carlson, please), I watch Nip/Tuck!
The bigger question for me: Why the hell do I watch NBC so much?!?!? Holy cow...

People still watch this show? Last season's "in the future" episode was the worst hour I ever spent watching television. It was the crapper, er, capper to what was already an awful season. I can't believe I was ever a fan of this show but I stopped watching after that episode.
I knew it would only get worse. I had no idea the show would get this bad. Reading this article makes me so glad I have better things to watch on Tuesday night.

I totally agree with you, Bruce. I was grossed out by the hottub scene, but at least that was something that could actually happen to someone. But the Eden character is just so over-the-top and ridiculous that I cringe everytime she comes onscreen. Who actually behaves like that?? And it's one thing to have something crazy happen to Rosie's character, but to be attacked by a bird, sodomized, AND fall in love with an ambiguously gay man all in one hour? Come on! Plus, at least when the show used to do outrageous storylines they had an impact on the characters and overall plot. But the hypothermia and ass bandit storylines were purely for shock value and will probably never even come up again.

Oh...at least we were spared from Matt & Kimber last night. Matt has to be one of the most annoying characters ever on television and is constantly trapped in bad afterschool special plotlines. White supremacists? Cults? Drugs? Enough already. He's one character that definitely should have been left behind in Miami.

I actually did not mind the Rosie story. Christian is (and always has been)a jerk but I am enjoying his storylines this year.
Otherwise I agree with this commentary. The last 2 episodes have been awful. What's with the a** bandit? Reminds me of last season's kidney snatchers.
Sean and the teenage temptress is tiring. He needs to give her what she wants and get it over with. I found myself fast-forwarding thru the Sean-Julia-Annie-Eden scenes.
Go back to Sean and Christian in Hollywood. It was much more entertaining.
