Jeers: Heroes Gets Lost by Adding Many Others
Dania Ramirez and Shalim Ortiz in Heroes by Trae Patton/NBC Photo
Jeers to Heroes for getting Lost with too many new characters. Like the castaway drama, NBC’s superpowered smash has hit a bit of a sophomore slump by bringing in a plethora of "Others" and not giving us enough of our old favorites like Niki, Ando and Hiro (where were they this week?). True, some of the new heroes are cool — I'm especially fond of Claire's high-flying new boyfriend, West. But will Alejandro and Maya ever reach the U.S. border? How long will Micah bunk with his Katrina-surviving relatives? And what's happened to the Irish gang Peter got mixed up with? All this, and Kristen Bell’s Elle hasn’t even appeared yet!
More Cheers & Jeers: Read and react to Bruce's opinions on Housewives, The Office and Friday Night Lights, then share your own raves and rants about other shows on the new Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board. Your comments could wind up in TV Guide magazine!

Completely agree. This show is getting to be terrible.
I think people are starting to wake up to the problems that have been in this series from the beginning. Mostly the lack of a cohesive direction, horrible dialogue, and the fact that the writers just expect us to take what they put on the screen as cool without actually working for it.
Lost had its issues but its on a whole different level of quality when compared to this drivel.

I 1/2 agree with this jeer.
The stuff with Maya & Alejandro and the stuff with Monica & her relatives needs a spark fast if it's going to keep my attention; but some of the other new additions are fun to watch: David Anders as Kensei, Claire's new boytoy West, and Peter's new Irish friends.

While I agree somewhat, I don't see it as a sophomore slump. Lost and Heroes at least try to shake things up season to season which is consistent with their respective breakout first seasons. If they were afraid of taking risk, the shows will just be any other lame show on TV.
As for adding new characters, it helps a lot of the new characters are GOOD. I loved the Others especially Ben and Juliet. They added so much to the story that is Lost unlike the brother/sister team. In a weird coincidence, the brother/sister team in Heroes also doesn't seem to be gelling, but Micah's family in LA, the Original Heroes, and Takezo Kensei have added important layers to the shows.

I agree with this assessmnent, though I'm a bit confused about the poll option. Does "jump the shark" mean that the show has jumped the shark, or Cheers and Jeers has jumped the shark?

Maya and Alejandro have been a slow addition, but I love Kensai and West. I hope Peter comes back soon, but I am still enjoying the stuff with the Irish.
And Kristen Bell is coming on next week!
So overall, I'd have to say I disagree. Maya and Alejandro may be slow, but I am willing to give them a chance. Especially now, because it could be very interesting having them paired up with Sylar!

For the record, I like David Anders' Takezo, too--but where was he this week? And the "jump the shark" vote is about the show, not Cheers & Jeers, but feel free to tell me if you think I've jumped the shark...

I disagree. I'm enjoying the new blood. I think it's giving the show a little extra life. I'm really interested to see where the new story lines go.. Especially with Maya and her brother picking up Sylar.

I wholeheartedly agree! I cannot stand Maya and Alejandro. Their powers are silly and, other than a vehicle for Sylar, they serve absolutely no purpose. They're worse than Niki/Jessica.
Last night's episode was the perfect example of "Hero Overload." They spent so much time on the newbies that our favorites were ignored completely. It just proves you CAN have too much of a good thing.

I agree about some of the characters, but some I like. And I'm SOOOOO EXCITED for Kristen Bell. Can't wait for her to show up!
I haven't found the love for Maya and Alejandro yet. What's the point of them other than get Sylar back to New York? I hope their story picks up soon. I also haven't found the love for the Irish people Peter's with. Maybe it's because I want him to get back to his old self. I'm giving Micah's family a little more of a chance. I don't think I care too much for his male cousin, but the other two seem to have a little potential.
I wish they'd get the heroes closer together so we can see more of them more often.

Last night's show was great. Lots covered and explored. Are people really having trouble following the characters? There are obvious breaks in editing where confusion doesn't happen. I suppose I'm just confused on this point. There are fewer characters on the show than Lost, though Lost does a fine job of ignoring most.

'too many new characters', poor baby. small attention span? it is a crime that you have to pay attention to a tv show. let's watch some football or perhaps a 'reality' show instead. there that's better! this kind of writing is straight out of the 'we must take them down' school of journalism. i for one don't want to watch shows that appeal to the lowest common denominator.with all the garbage on, it's refreshing to watch something that makes you think.

A short attention span's not the problem--if most of the new characters aren't as interesting as the old ones who are being ignored, that's the problem.

HQ, I'll give you one guess who sounds like a "poor baby"....and it isn't Bruce...
Seriously, what kind of post was that? What does to many characters have to do with poor attention span? How about wanting original characters you like appearing or stories you find interesting? Six storylines going on at the same is too much and it has nothing to do with attention span, it has to do with storytelling.

I only partially agree, as last nights episode began to see some of the stories finally intertwine, which is good. More story movement and less meaningless meandering. Now if they will just pick up the pace and dump one or two of the new characters, not all of them, then we'll have a more enjoyable season.
Everyone is already invested in some of the previous characters, so the new characters need to be essential to the story.
