Jeers: A Heath Ledger Tribute Not Fit for a King
Larry King courtesy CNN
Jeers to Larry King for being hopelessly out of touch. Discussing the tragic death of Heath Ledger, the CNN host asked a panelist, "Is his fianceé an actress?" Yes, Larry, her name's Michelle Williams, and they both got Oscar nominations for Brokeback Mountain! (Oh, and by the way, they were no longer engaged.) This comes not long after King offended Jerry Seinfeld by asking if his sitcom had been canceled. "You're not aware of this?" Seinfeld responded incredulously. "Can we get a résumé in here for Larry to go over?" With all due respect to Larry's 50 years in the biz, it might be time for King to step down from his throne.

This doesn't surprise me. Larry King has become an embarrassment. He takes pride in not doing research on his guests, but the result, more often than not, is at least one awkward moment per show in which his ignorance of the guest's career and/or personal background borders on insulting.
When he had Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr on a few months ago, I was almost waiting for him to say, "Now which one of you is John?"
And he tends to ask the same question over and over, somehow expecting a different answer.
King: "Who's your favorite actor?" Guest Actor: "I'd say Paul Newman." King: "Newman?" Guest: "Sure." King: "Number one for you. Top of the list. Paul Newman." Guest: "Well, there are others who I admire..." King: "But Newman's your favorite?"
And so on...
SAY GOODNIGHT, LARRY!

I enjoy the Larry King show because with breaking news such as this, his live show will go into depth with guests and reporters. I found his show tonight very informative and his guests were spot on. But I do not enjoy Larry as he is usually clueless and asks inane questions, like tonight.

I'm glad I don't watch the news. I can't stand stupid questions.

This discussion reminds me of the old SNL skit that combined Johnny Carson and Arsenio Hall into Carsenio. The premise was that Johnny (Dana Carvey) was trying to "hip it up" by becoming an Arsenio clone. In the end, Ed McMahon (Phil Hartman) confirms for him that he just looks pathetic trying to keep up with the times.
There have been reports (and I think Dana Carvey has talked about this) that when Carson saw this skit, it convinced him to pack it in on The Tonight Show.
If only Larry King and Joan Rivers had that kind of sense. They both have had respectable careers that are now being over-shadowed by the steady stream of humiliating flubs they have made in the twilights of their careers.
It's funny, in all of the people I have referenced here, Dana Carvey and Arsenio Hall have faded into relative obscurity. Larry and Joan should have. The only one I remember fondly is Phil Hartman. Maybe it's true what they say. Dying is a great career move.
Sad.

Maybe the guy has started to develop a neurological problem. Repeating yourself and forgetting things is a sign of Alzheimer's, and it's not a funny issue.

Cheers to Larry King for consistently getting good guests and tackling timely topics.
Jeers to Larry King for ruining those opportunities with his increasingly poor interview style and lack of preparation.

AriGato, while I agree with you that Alzheimer's isn't always funny, I tend to agree more with fx772k1.
What I really question is CNN's decision to leave this man on the air way past his prime, in the primest of prime hours on the channel (especially when it's beamed around the world)!

At first, I thought maybe the Seinfeld thing was a put-on, to take Jerry's ego down a few dozen notches. (Don't worry, he'd still have plenty of ego and arrogance left to spare.) But now, I think it's finally time for Larry King to pack up what's left of his Ensure and Depends and go home for good.
He's become a parody of himself, he's woefully out of touch, and his time has long-passed. Say goodnight, Larry, before you make an even bigger ass out of yourself.

Then he wouldn't need the suspenders!

Larry King seriously needs to retire. He's been embarrassing himself by calling people the wrong name and not doing his homework for a long, long time. I remember him calling some of the "Friends" cast by the wrong names back at the peak of the popularity in the mid-1990s. Johnny Carson is an example of a truly class act who left when he was still at the top of his game. Unfortunately, King missed his chance to do that! It's time for someone new in that time slot - as long as it's not Nancy Grace.

I only saw (could stand) part of the show, but Larry didn't even know that Heath was playing The Joker in the upcoming Batman movie! "Oh, is that coming out soon?' I could just gouge my eyes out............with his shoulder blades!!!
