Jeers: Ice-T's Uncool Feud
Celebrity Family Feud by Chris Haston/NBC Photo
Jeers to Ice-T for shedding his last shred of street cred by appearing on Celebrity Family Feud. It was ironic when the once-controversial "Cop Killer" took a role as an NYPD detective on Law & Order: SVU. Throwing down with Joan Rivers' posse on an Al Roker-hosted NBC game show is just sad. Accompanied by his extra-buxom wife, Coco, as well as his mother-in-law, namesake son and best friend, the old-school rapper predicted, "It's gonna get real gangsta in there" — then got smoked in sudden death. Survey says... sellout!

As we had planned to watch this with our kids (under 8 years old) like we do the "old versions" of Family Feud, we ended up turning off this version after 15 minutes.
My goodness, I'm no prude or anything, but could IceTs wife and mother-in-law promote their assets anymore! It was absolutely disgusting! And Al Roker staring down Coco's breasts was just the last straw -- like he's never seen anything like that before.
They overly sexualized this show way too much. Definitely not a "family" show anymore.

To be fair...who really has?
Bruce, I hate even using this pharse because I am one who strongly believes in righteous outrage, but lighten up will ya? Maybe, at 50, Ice is looking to broaden his appeal and his future prospects.
And what the heck is "street cred" anyway? The notion that you may attack someone at any given moment? That humor and things other than getting high and blasting the the radio in your SUV are beneath you? Even gangsta rappers shuld be allowed a little personal growth. Peace out.

Well, due to a 7 hour power outage in my area, I did not get to see this. I wanted to but maybe I didn't miss out after all.

Mrs. Ice-T could wear clothes her own size and still have everyone see how stacked she is. Exhibitionist ya think?

His "street cred"? Really? Ice-T hasn't really been relevant on the streets for at least a decade.
As for playing a cop, you do realize that he also played a in the movie New Jack City. Did the almost entirely non-white cast allow him to keep his street cred then?
WTF? A person can't diversify?

I actually think its refreshing to see someone who has a "hard core" image appear on a show with their family. I give "mad props" to Ice-T. Word.

The funny thing about rappers - they actually get older just like the rest of us. And guess what? As we age, our priorities change. Ice T is no different. He has kids to raise and bills to pay. If he's trying to break out of the "street cred box" then more power to him.

Despite showing her "ta ta's" to everyone, she actually gave some pretty good answers!! I was impressed.
Joan Rivers wasn't that bad also!!
Besides, they were playing for charity, Bruce, so give Ice T a break.

I actually enjoyed watching it. I could have lived with a little less breast action, but hey, this is television. I think it was a fun summer show. I think Ice T and his family did a great job, and after all they did play for charity. No harm in that at all.

Perspective is a funny thing.
The first time I ever saw Ice-T interviewed at length was back in 1995 on The Late Late Show with Tom Snyder (God, how I miss Tom Snyder!). He dispelled his image of the angry black man for me that night.
Another guest on the show that night was Arianna Huffington (long before her Post became a must-read for political blog-lovers). At one point during the show, Tom sent a camera back into the green room because he heard from his crew that Ice and Arianna were hitting it off like gangbusters!
Sure enough, the camera revealed that the two were not only having a great time, but she was showing pictures of her kids to Ice's young son, who was in the room, and they joked about one day matching the children up!
When I watched Family Feud last night, that was the pre-conceived notion I had of Ice-T. To me, he was already more than the guy who recorded the (unfairly-maligned, I might add) Cop Killer.

I became a reluctant fan of Ice-T when he started playing Fin Tutuola on SVU; I'd had a preconceived notion of him as an angry rapper, and didn't think that I'd enjoy him as an actor. I've since seen him in interviews and realized that there is much more than one facet to the man. I would have watched him on Feud last night, even if only to sample the show, if it weren't for the fact that Joan Rivers and her clan were playing against him.
Before I changed the channel, during the introduction of Ice's family, I was away from the TV when his wife was on camera. However, I had returned when he introduced his mother-in-law, and I sad, "That is his mother-in-law?!" She looked younger than Ice in the quick shot that I saw.
