Jeers: Just Say No, Justine!

080505desperatehousewives_bateman.jpg
Justine Bateman in Desperate Housewives by Danny Feld/ABC
Jeers to Desperate Housewives for wasting Justine Bateman in a silly subplot. I was excited when I heard one of my teenage crushes would be visiting Wisteria Lane, but couldn't they have come up with a better-fitting role for the Family Ties alum than Ellie, a drug dealer who moves into Gaby and Carlos' house? I'm not sure which was more far-fetched: Gaby recruiting gay neighbor Lee to try and prove her boarder was a hooker or Ellie's untrue story that she's running a tattoo parlor in her room. Even Mallory Keaton wouldn't have bought that one.

I would love to know who in the world makes up that 11% who voted that this plot is a "Jump the Shark" moment.

Really? Really?!?

This show has survived the Applewhites, Xiao-Mei and Wallace Shawn, but "Mallory as a crank peddler" is going to do it in, huh?

Okey dokey.

And as Abby jiggles by the renter's room, has she heard the sound of the handheld tattooing machine even once? Do these men in suits look like they are getting tattoos? Is Gaby worried about the cost of electricity for thing the equipment would be sterilized in? Honestly, what a really stupid premise!

why would you put a scary pic of justine and then say she was your high school crush? although i wish the lady would eat more. she was prettier (and had more weight) in arrested development.

Well at least we found out the gay neighbors didn't get blown away by the twister.

Who is Shawn Wallace? - shadester

Other way around -- Wallace Shawn is this guy.

He's best known for the movies The Princess Bride, Radio Days, Clueless and the Toy Story films (he's Rex the Green Dinosaur), although he has also had recurring roles on such TV shows as The Cosby Show, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Murphy Brown and Crossing Jordan.

He first became semi-well-known for the movie My Dinner with Andre, which for years comedians used as the ultimate example of a talky artsy-fartsy film.

He was also in Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills, one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

He often plays obnoxious, annoying, pompous characters -- and he plays them frighteningly well.

Yeah, I had been wondering about them!

People just disappear on this show, and then show up again after a while.

I was wondering the other night about Felicia Tillman (of chopped-off-fingers fame). Will we ever get an ending for that storyline?

Chappy Quiddik:

The fact that you hated Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills tells me you didn't pick up on the film being a huge satire. Amazing...you're the first person who didn't pick up on that in all the years the film's been out!

As for the resolution of the Felicia Tillman storyline...it IS over. Felicia framed Paul for her murder by sawing two of her fingers off and spreading pints of her blood (which she collected over time) in his garage. And then she went up to the mountains pretending to be her dead sister.

Paul's gone, so is Zach, Mary Alice is still dead and so is Mrs. Huber. What possible storyline is there left for Harriet Sansom-Harris?

Oh, I got that it was a satire. Apparently you didn't get that it wasn't a very good one.

And apparently you don't get the distinction between a story that has reached a conclusion and one that has merely been put on the back burner.

I don't consider the current status to be a resolution. There is more story to tell there, and I would like to think that Marc Cherry will tell it at some point.

Paul's gone, so is Zach, Mary Alice is still dead and so is Mrs. Huber.

Hmmmm....do I really need to point this out? Paul and Zach are only gone because the writers have written them off for the time being. They could be brought back at any time. That's how these things work.

What possible storyline is there left for Harriet Sansom-Harris?

Ummm...HELLO?!? How about if Paul gets out of prison, finds proof that Felicia is still alive and tries to track her down?

Yes, Paul killed Mrs. Huber, but that doesn't make what Felicia did right.

You don't think that maybe people want to see Felicia's deeds uncovered? You don't see how there is more story to be told there?

Maybe Marc Cherry doesn't plan to revisit this, but, nonetheless, it obviously could be done.

Amazing...you're the first person who didn't pick up on that in all the months since that episode aired.

I have to disagree. I'm not a fan of Justine Bateman. 20 years of "deer in the headlights" acting just isn't my cup of tea. I didn't like her in Elmo and I don't like her on Wisteria Lane. But her storyline didn't bug me comedy MVP Eva Longoria Parker made this silly plot watchable with her one-liners and signature bitchiness. It could develope into something interesting so I'm going to wait to judge it.
