Cheers: Housewives' Bright Future

080519desperatehousewives.jpg
Marcia Cross, Eva Longoria Parker and Felicity Huffman in Desperate Housewive by Ron Tom/ABC
Cheers to Desperate Housewives for flashing forward. The season's closing minutes cut to five years later, when Gaby's a harried mother of two, Bree's a successful cookbook author (and back together with Orson), Katherine's celebrating daughter's Dylan's engagement, Lynette's dealing with juvenile-delinquent twins and Susan's got a new man (maybe she never forgave Mike for naming their son Maynard). After a disappointingly far-fetched finale — I don't believe Katherine would cover up her daughter's accidental death — this device should shake up the story lines and set up new mysteries for next season. Like: If it's five years later, why don't these women look older?

For another take on Housewives' time-twist, read Mitovich's TV Matt'rs blog.

The finale sucked except for the last 2 seconds.

Susan and ADAM?!

That wasn't Adam. It was a new character being played by Gale Harrold from Queer as Folk.

I liked the episode enough...not amazing but not terrible. Glad they wrapped up the Kayla-Bad Seed business. But the whole story of Katherine's daughter was too preposterous. And the commitment ceremony thing after the gay couple not being around all season seemed kind of forced. Also didn't one of the gay guys have some dirt on Katherine and she on them that she used to keep them quiet) or am I, like Roger Clemens, misremembering?

I'll be curious to see what happened to Mike. Also noticed they didn't show Carlos in Gaby's flash forward. And I wonder if Orson will have served his prison sentence before he and Bree reconciled.

I'm not happy with the mini-jeer about the finale being "far-fetched". This is 'Desperate Housewives'! Considering everything that has occurred on Wisteria Lane in the past 4 seasons, being irked by a "far-fetched" episode would be rather pointless. Everything that has always been great about this show contributed to the finale. I loved it!

Although it looks as though Gaby's kids haven't benefitted from her and Carlos' good looks.

I thought it was a terrific finale. I agree with GarryB. Far-fetched works on this show. And as for the ladies not looking any older (well, Gaby showed signs of wear and tear), it's a soap. No woman ever ages on soaps. Look at Susan Lucci on All My Children. She looks younger now than she did in 1970! ;)

Maybe soap stars are from Ork.

Wow. How obscure a reference was that!!!

I was crying for a half hour after the show ended due to Katherine' "secret" even though I had an idea of what the "secret" was. I felt it so hard. Are we never going to see Mike again? I LOVE James Denton. He's the the hottest guy on the show!

Maybe Mike will come back with Edie!

The only thing that redeemed this episode was the appearance of Adam, because everything is 27% better with the appearance of Nathan Fillion. Too bad that 27% was the only good thing about the episode. It was terrible. I agree that the inclusion of the commitment ceremony was a waste. And some of the scenes??? Adam pulls up with a bloody, swollen, cut face, bloody shirt, bloody hands, and all the parking attendant can say is you need to go around??? It was nice to wrap up the Kayla story, but that whole subplot came out of nowhere in the first place. One minute she's running out of a tornado destroyed house and calling Lynette "Mommie", the next minute, she's trying to kill her siblings and blackmail both parents. Yes...yes...that makes perfect sense. Katherine's storyline was predictable. And how convenient that Ellie chooses to hide in the one house on the lane that has a homicidal cop holding his ex-wife hostage. Oh the irony!

Then the five year flash forward. I'm sorry...but no. I was willing to give it a chance....but come on! Gabby has suddenly pounded out two kids, Bree is a famous author whose forgiven her husband for intentionally running down Mike, Susan is married....again.....and Lynette's kids are delinquents? Ummm...I'm sorry. I'll check out a couple of episodes next season to see how it goes, but I don't have high hopes.

Hmmmm...I'm gonna have to see how this all plays out next season. I have to start with 2 facts: 1)Susan has always been my least favorite housewife and I care the least about what happens to her (I just find her grating) and 2) I absolutely LOVE Gale Harold. That said, we waited this long for the Susan/Mike relationship to find stable footing and they bust it up so quickly? Eh. I'm still on the fence.

Unrelated side note (as if I didn't already know): Nathan Fillion, no matter what his role, never fails to be completely badass. Left for dead after a 24 hour beating and still manages to save the day-completely Mal worthy moment (Firefly still rocks). Absolutely adore him... Will watch him do anything anytime...
Anyway, peace out...

Jump the Shark why don't you, DH. That was the worst ending I've ever seen. Thank you, ABC Charlotte for cutting off the ending due to a technical difficulty and not making me see that Susan wasn't with Mike. Yes, DH has done some far fetched things but that was ridiculous. Gabby being touched with the magical soap opera wand that allows the infertile to get pregnant, ridiculous. Gabby having fat daughters, further ridiculous unless Carlos is in charge of the food and can't see what's being consumed. Lynnette's kids in "juvy" ~ um, in 5 years they'll still be too young for that. So, so stupid. Definitely gives me nothing to look forward to in the future. DH may have not only jumped the shark, they may have been swallowed up upon landing and need to be removed from the DVR ~ permanently. JEERS ~ JEERS ~ JEERS!!

The original Jump The Shark episodes of Happy Days (a 3-parter!) was rerun on TV Land Canada (yes, there is actually a separate TV Land channel for us up here) and let me tell you, the whole concept of JTS is completely misused.

Those episodes of Happy Days were so gawdawful, they just show how a good concept can go so horribly wrong. It wasn't really about Fonzie jumping an actual shark. It was about Fonzie is baby-blue shorts...AND a leather jacket. It was about having a live audience everytime ANYONE walked on set (even Joanie)!!! It was about all of these formerly decent actors constantly mugging for the audience and virtually forgetting that there was a TV audience out here.

Happy Days was a terrific show when there was no live audience (ditto The Odd Couple, which was the original Laverne And Shirley, by the way!).

DH did not jump the shark last night. It may have taken a turn some of you don't like, but it's still well-written and funny. I am sorry TV Guide ever gobbled up the whole JTS idea. It is WAY overused, and frankly, Jump The Shark jumped the shark when the frickin' Jump The Shark book came out and presumed to tell us when Dan Quayle and Dennis Rodman and (not kidding) Iraq(!) jumped the shark!

I do not care how others feel but I liked the ending. What a way to get money! Am not surprised about Susan and the guy-would not be surprised if with his background Mike had met a end that did not include a divorce.

Disagree with you-for the reasons given I can see someone like Katherine doing what she did because the cops would have hung her out to dry. Just maybe in a more humane way if it had been possible.

As for the 5 year flash foreward being a surprise-it was mentioned when Marcia Cross was on the View.

WARNING: This has nothing to do with your Desperate Housewives cheer (although I do agree!)

JEER to the TV Guide Dream Emmy Ballot, sheer disappoinment.

I do not care how others feel...

What kind of useless loser would start a BLOG entry with an insipid line like that? If that's the way you feel, why don't you write your opinions on tiny scraps of paper and then feed them into a paper shredder? Idiot! If you're on a blog, you must care a little how other people feel, pinhead. I don't care how YOU feel, though, so I didn't continue reading beyond those first seven words. Why on earth would I (or anyone else)!?

God! Any moron can use a computer these days.
