Jeers: David Archuleta Must Go!
David Archuleta by Ray Mickshaw/Fox
Jeers to David Archuleta for overstaying his welcome on American Idol. Sure, the kid can sing in tune, but he has zero personality. His neutered version of Chris Brown's "With You" was, quite simply, embarrassing. And was that flop sweat or just a weird pattern on his shirt during his super-sappy performance of Dan Fogelberg's "Longer"? Maybe Archuleta lacked confidence without his stage dad around, but the 17-year-old seemed even more prepubescent than usual this week. Syesha Mercado stumbled by picking the old-fashioned "Fever," but that penguin song was not her fault. She deserves a spot in the finals alongside if-there's-a-God winner David Cook. Sorry, Archie!

I thought I saw evil bunnies on D'Archie's shirt!

I haven't watched much this season but I did watch last night...frankly none of them were all that great. The songs the producers picked for them were pretty awful. And perhaps one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever heard was uttered by Simon when he declared that the Aerosmith song "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" is one of the all-time great songs.
And what the hell is the deal with those zombie arm-wavers right in front of the stage?

Archie Is a good singer but he should not win this thing. He would be better off coming back in a few years after he sheds his shy shuffleboard personality. And Yes I know he has fans, but who knew Randy was his biggest.... I'm sure of it now especially after last night when Cook sealed the show with THE best performance of the night and all Randy said was "it was just alright" he looked like the biggest jackass on the panel, and that isn't easy to do! Sorry for the rant but blatant BS like that just irks the heck outta me!

I hate to be mean but I am hoping to see all those girls in the front cry tonight when David goes home. He messed up the first part of With You and none of the judges even brought that up! Had another person done that they would have called them out in a second!

Hi Bruce, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, as am I, and in my opinion, you are wrong. On this site I'm a minority in that I very much like David A, but I know that I'm not in the minority when it comes to everyone who actually votes. I'll concede the argument that most of his fans are teenagers, but not ALL of them are, including this 54 year old female. I love his voice and think he certainly deserves a place as a finalist.

While I agree that David A is boring and I certainly wouldn't mind his leaving, I don't think that it's fair to offer a Jeer to David for overstaying his welcome. He's stayed because America wants him to stay, right or wrong.
I actually started giggling at the beginning of his version of With You, but then I remembered I was making fun [if just with myself] of a 17 yr old kid and kicked myself a little. He was doing OK by the end of it, but lets face it, there is no chance that that is the type of music he is going to put out on his CD.

Even if he deserves to go (which I don't agree with), how anticlimactic would the finale be with a 100% certain Cook win. At least with the two Davids in the final it could go either way. Syesha will not be able to beat either Davids.

The world doesn't need any more elevator music.
But he seems like he has a good shot at winning since I could see Idol going with someone who sounds pretty but completely bland. Whether he wins or not, this guy has zero career ahead of him.

I disagree with most of what you said. A lot of it is plain mean spirited and I think that's pretty low aimed at a 17 year old boy. He is extremely talented and with some good direction I think he could do quite well.
That being said he also messed up the words to Longer. I think the pressure of American Idol is beyond his maturity level right now, of course that type of scrutiny would probably break most of us.
As for Syesha I thought her Fever was cute and campy and showed a different facet of her personality.
The judges need to either limit songs to one era or stop harping about things being too old or too young or too whatever pops in their head at the moment. A good song or a good performance can transcend the age of a song.
Critiquing the contestants for song choice on songs picked for them just shows ignorance on the part of the judges.

Syesha in the finals??!! Are you kidding me? The only thing she proved last night is she's an actress, not a singer.

"My take is that the author is an a$$."
Ding, ding, ding!
"Archie Is a good singer but he should not win this thing. He would be better off coming back in a few years..."
Having made the top 50, he is not eligible to compete in AI again.
"I'll concede the argument that most of his fans are teenagers, but not ALL of them are, including this 54 year old female. I love his voice and think he certainly deserves a place as a finalist."
Ditto this 45-year-old!

I know that there are a lot of people who don't share my opinion but I have never been a David A. fan (I've been on the David Cook bandwagon since day one). I think David A. can sing but he is too breathy and he has no stage presence. Let him grow up some, mature, get rid of his dad and he could have a bright future, he's just not all that right now.

OK - I may be opening myself to bashing here but so be it...I think this Jeer is very well deserved, particularly after last week's controversy about changing the lyrics after being expressly told not to by the show. He listened to his father, broke the rules and he should be gone. And, his singing is not Idol-winner worthy...he's bland, breathy and IMO, utterly forgettable in this genre of music...maybe he'd do better in an all Christian music setting but not in the real world.
And to those complaining about bashing a 17-year-old, I say he signed on for that (as did all the contestants) the day he got his ticket to Hollywood. His youth is no barrier to picking on him, especially since he's been around the music and TV business for several years now - it's par for the course. Syesha, Carly, Brooke, Kristy Lee and Ramiele all had to experience it this season and others did on other seasons so give it up. So what if he's a kid who looks like Ernie from "Sesame Street?" It's a free for all and he should be capable of dealing it.
Though I don't think she'll win, Syesha should continue to the Top 2 with Cook...she has made consistent progress and has improved, while Archie has stayed in the same place from day one, plus she has never fumbled or forgotten her lyrics . Can he say that? No, so bye bye little boy.

"That being said he also messed up the words to Longer."
I don't think this is true. It was claimed on the AI show blog, but when questioned, it was admitted that it was probably in the recap at the end where they often use footage from dress rehearsals. Go to You Tube, watch the performance, and you'll see he got the lyrics correct! Quit perpetuating a rumor!
"I think this Jeer is very well deserved, particularly after last week's controversy about changing the lyrics after being expressly told not to by the show..."
I am sure that the AI producers are cognizant of their own rules. Your "Jeer" has nothing at all to do with talent.
I do agree that by signing up for AI, he is signing up for criticism too, so constructive criticism is fair. This, however, is not constructive or fair: "So what if he's a kid who looks like Ernie from "Sesame Street?"
"Syesha should continue to the Top 2..."
She hasn't made the top 2 yet. This is no slam on Syesha; I like her, but she hasn't achieved top 2 status yet. None of them have.
