Jeers: Slow Dancing with the Stars

Jeers to Dancing with the Stars for setting a new record for prime-time-killing filler. Seriously, do we need to sit through 92 mind- (and butt-)numbing minutes to watch six contestants do their two-minute routines? And there isn't even an elimination the first week! Factor in the corny "first meeting" segments, Tom Bergeron's high-larious ad libs and Samantha Harris' insipid post-dance interviews, and there's more stretching on the air than behind the scenes on this show. At least you can fast-forward through the vast majority of the episodes without missing anything. This is why God invented TiVo.

I agree, I watched HIMYM and Big Bang Theory and recorded Dancing and New Amsterdam. Starting at nine o'clock exactly, I was done with Dancing at nine thirty two. And still, it dragged so much that at the end I was like, who danced?

I too used the DVR and watched the whole show in like 30 minutes. They drag it out way tooooooo long.

They really need to get rid of Samantha!! She is awful and the bantering the guys had with the judges felt awkward. I didn't mind the first meetings though.

I guess I've become entranced by this show, so sitting through 392 minutes would have been OK by me.

You're right about Samantha Harris, though.

But ... I love Tom and his ad libs. He's amazing!

I enjoy the show, but dragging it out to two nights is completely unnecessary. They could have had all of the couples dance in two hours last night. I'm fine with there not being an elimination the first week, because I always feel sorry for those who get canned based on only one dance. However, there will be two next week. From Tom's comments, it sounded as though it would be one man and one woman who get the ouster, but I hope he misspoke or I misunderstood. I detest the forced "gender equality" of AI, and would hate to see somebody go home just because they're the "wrong" gender.

Why can't they just fire Samantha Harris? Does anyone actually think she's good? Probably the same people who think Bruno and Carrie are good.

And yes, there will be one man and one woman eliminated next week. I think its silly too. Its worse on AI though, where terrible singers stick around and good ones leave just because there's more good singers of one gender than the other. Makes no kinda sense.

Tom is hilarious and fun, Sam is just beautiful. It's not necessary to have 2 hosts on this show...

Speaking of beauty...

Major jeers to Beauty and the Geek for not pairing the beauties with geeks this season. The charm of this show is watching each pair learn from each other and form close bonds despite their differences. If they were going to stay with their own, they could've just stayed home!

I agree the show is too long but Tom's ad libs and bantering with judges are terrific. The scenes of the first meeting and the training are worth keeping. As a ballroom dance teacher, I like that it reinforces the need for hard work, lots of practice and for technique, to my students and the viewers who think ballroom should be easy.
Samantha is a twit (the microphone in front of Marlee again and again or asking EACH guy if they were happy Gutenberg was still in?)and should never have been brought back. Drew Lachey was witty and charming and did not ask inane questions.
At least they don't build up the suspense and break to commercial this time before announcing results.

I must disagree. I love dance in all forms and find this show always entertaining. I rarely watch the generally dismal American Idol, which is also spread out over two days, even 3 days in the early stages.

What I do agree with is the suggestion that they replace Samantha Harris. Drew Lachey was a much better host whose questions and comments were a lot of fun.
