Jeers: Two and a Half Laughs

080506twohalfmen.jpg
Charlie Sheen and George Eads in Two and a Half Men by Greg Gayne/Warner Bros./CBS
Jeers to Two and a Half Men for its CSI crossover. It sounded like a funny idea on paper: Ask the scribes from CBS' top-rated drama to write a script for its No. 1 sitcom. But aside from a clever remix of the opening themes ("Who are you? Men, men, men, men") and a sly reference to a Marg Helgenberger lookalike's plunging neckline, you couldn't find a good joke with a microscope. George Eads' cameo as a wedding guest was pointless, as were Jake's gastrointestinal f/x. Even the show's trademark smutty euphemisms ("she put lipstick on his dipstick") were uninspired. Hope Thursday's CSI — penned by Men's writers — does a better job of slaying me.

Not so easy, this comedy thing, is it?

Good morning...I'm probably in the minority here, but I thought the episode was hilarious! and it was fun to watch George Eads, even if it was only for 2 seconds...loved the interrogation scenes; my favorite line was Holland's Taylor "Have you ruled out clowns?"...

I'm with you anamaria, I thought it was great fun, very inventive and a great way to shake things up. I certainly didn't expect a dramatic twist like Teddy and his 'daughter' being con artists in a sitcom. It was a great way to tie up the story line while taking us in a new direction as well.

I'm gonna disagree too, Bruce. I liked the subtle CSI touches (Jake chewing on the cocoa residue) as well as the broader ones. And while "lipstick on his dipstick" was a low for the night, you have to admit it wasn't very far off Men's usual joke trajectory.

This is shocking. The episode was hilarious. Holland Taylor and Conchata Ferrel were great, Ferrel especially. I have no idea what you were looking for in the episode. I don't get it.

I am with Anamaria. The clown reference made me laugh so hard, I scared the cat. In fact, I laughed out loud a number of times during the show, something I have not done in a while. The only thing I did not like was the fact it was RJ (Teddy) who died. I loved having him on the show and would watch him read the phone book. Would rather have had Courtney be the dead body.

Yeah, I gotta agree with everyone else. The entire episode left me in stitches. In fact, at one point, I let out this really sharp cackle while holding my baby daughter, and it was so loud that she jumped straight up (of course, then I missed the next thirty seconds of the show while I soothed her...). The opening credits in particular left us rolling.

Like most, I disagree with this 'Jeer', and voted as such.

I thought last night's ep was absolutely hilarious!!! And what a great combination of the theme songs!

The cameo with George Eads took me by surprise...I wonder who (if anyone) will show up on Thursday.

I can't wait to see what the 2 1/2 Men's writers do with CSI!

When I grow up, I want to make as much money as the kid in 'men'.

This episode was a hoot!! I thought it was really funny and I too enjoyed seeing George Eads cameo. I hope that Charlie gets to do a cameo on CSI. Holland Taylor is fantastic on this show!

I'm with the Jeer on this one. The ep was not funny, aside from a few laughs at Berta and Evelyn's wisecracks, it really kind of wasted a lot of the CSI thing. The flashbacks, internal body animations, the Marg doppelganger, and having George Eads there were cute but not funny. I was really disappointed they didn't actually use George Eads. Kind of sad to see the end of Teddy too.

Boy, someone must have been grumpy not to like Two and a Half" last night-funniest episode I've ever seen! Just missed GE's cameo-but the Catherine-alike was a hoot! I will never watch the "tragectory" zooms the same way again! And the way Holland Taylor murdered those songs while Sheen and Cryer tried to interrupt was hilarious!
Best show of the night!

This was by far the best episode of the season! From the opening song (great combo of CSI/Men) to Jake's "bubble" at the end, I couldn't stop laughing my butt off! I figured something was up with Cortney needing money and Teddy refusing to give it to her but didn't expect them to be con artists. Couldn't have been done any better. :-D

I also enjoyed the episode, although I think it could have been better. I am looking forward to the CSI.

Unlike the rest of you though, I saw the twist coming last week. When Teddy and his daughter were fighting about money outside the house, I said to my husband, "It's a long con." (I watch LOST.) I knew it was coming. What I didn't expect was for them to kill Teddy. I think I would have liked it better if the con had been allowed to play out and they all had to live together some where for a while next season. The CSI ep should have been a stand alone.
