Jeers: A Starsky Isn't Reborn

Paul Michael Glaser by Lee Celano/WireImage.com
Jeers to The Closer for wasting Paul Michael Glaser. I was psyched when I heard one of my childhood idols would make a rare TV appearance on another cop show, three decades after he policed the streets on Starsky & Hutch. Imagine my disappointment when Glaser was given only two brief scenes as a movie producer/murder suspect — and even those were dominated by Amy Aquino as his vengeful wife. They could've at least let him drive a Gran Torino or something.

Could not agree more, Bruce! I just posted same in my The Closer recap.

Glad we're on the same page, Matt. At least Glaser still looks pretty good--unlike David Soul. Anyone remember their cameo in the "Starsky and Hutch" movie? Scary...

I am going to have to disagree with you a bit on this one. THe thing is, as soon as I saw his name in the opening credits, my immediate reaction was "so here's our killer." I just thought it was nice to go against the most-high-profile-guest-star-did-it motif by having him just be a red herring.

Maybe he can make a return later in the season and actually be the killer.

I agree with boodaddy, it wa a pleasant surprise that Paul Michael Glaser wasn't the killer. The Closer does not have strong guest star roles like Law and Order or ER. It would be out of character for this show to do that. I was not disappointed in the least! No jeers Bruce!

Here's my Jeers to this episode....Am I the only one who noticed the whole "ripped from the headlines" Law & Order style plot? It was so obvious to me who the killer was, since the case was based on Rutterschmidt and Golay. I did however, really enjoy the interaction between Fritz and Brenda. Glad to see they haven't added any contrivances to get in the way of their relationship.

I have to agree. He is such a talented actor. It seems a waste of a good opportunity to have him play a diabolical killer which he would have played to the hilt!!!! It was great to see him though!!!

Yes, I do think this was mostly a waste of time for Glaser. Hopefully, he'll get some bigger parts on TV in the near future. Maybe one of the Law & Orders.

I agree they could have written a bigger role for him. He was good in the brief time he aired...and I must say, the man is HOT and very GOOD.

Hope to see him in a role more worthy of his talent, but I was glad to see him (how ever briefly) on The Closer.

I imagine that this role wasn't written specifically for this actor. I bet he was cast after the character has already been written, the script done. So, no, I don't think this was a big deal. I agree with those who think that it would be predictable if they cast him as the killer (in another episode maybe).

Glaser had his moment in the sun. That he is being asked to guest on todays TV dramas should be enough. Why is it that so many believe that those who were popular in the 70's and 80's should once again be given an ivory tower from which to perform. He did a fine job, leave it at that.

Ivory tower? I don't undertand the use of that phrase in this context.

As for why, can it simply be that some of us would like to see our favorite actors more often? No harm in that.

I agree with Mr Fretts, I would have enjoyed seeing PMG in a bigger, juicier role. Maybe producers of other cable and network shows will take notice after his brief appearance on "The Closer" call on him for other guest spots.
