Cheers: SAG Sings The Sopranos' Praises

Cheers to the Screen Actors Guild Awards for paying proper respect to The Sopranos. True, it would've been exciting if SAG had chosen up-and-comers like Mad Men or Damages, but those shows will have many more years to win prizes. (Fresh blood was rewarded with Tina Fey's and Alec Baldwin's well-deserved comedy wins for 30 Rock.) By honoring James Gandolfini, Edie Falco and the entire mob ensemble, it acknowledged the importance of HBO's landmark drama for one last time. Even after The Sopranos' swan song, SAG didn't fuhgeddaboudit.

I gotta disagree. It's not like The Sopranos or Gandolfini or Falco never won before. And as good as Gandolfini and Falco are as Tony and Carm, I always thought much of the supporting cast was kind of weak. But since the best ensemble wasn't even nominated (Lost), then Mad Men should have won.

I'll be brief. Yes.

I have to disagree as well. I really hated to see that they were nominated, and then automatically know they'd win. I understand the shout-out, but come on. So many other great shows and actors nominated that I would have liked to see win. Especially in the Male Actor category.

Disagree. First of all, to hell with The Sopranos, quite possibly the most overrated show of all time, which of all years should have not won very much of anything for that overwrought last season.

Of the nominees, Mad Men or The Closer and John Hamm should have been rewarded in their respective categories, while Close or Sedgwick should have taken it home for Female Actor.

Gandolfini and Falco have been overrewarded. Falco in particular did nothing in her last year that rivals the work done by Close and Sedgwick for instance. Falco was barely a supporting player. This ridiculous rubber stamping of the Sopranos cast should have gotten a jeer not a cheer.

I am so thrilled that Sopranos is finally dead. Both James Gandolfini and Edie Falco have been repeatedly rewarded for playing the same characters living through the same type of storylines. Just because they can scream with emotion does not merit this overindulgence of their stale performances.

Since it seemes like the Sopranos ended years ago, it's hard to believe that they are still eligible. I never liked the show, so I think all the accolades are misplaced. Even worse, throwing them on the dead embers of the show just... sucked. What a waste when there were so many more deserving people - Hamm from Mad Men being the most egregious snub. Of course, none of the folks acknowledge the amazing work of the actors on Battlestar Galactica (just because it's sci-fi, no less), so it's all BS anyway.

By the third Sopranos award, even the sudence looked bored. That says it all, I think.

The Sopranos can't go away soon enough. Michael C. Hall has done excellent work on TWO series and keeps getting snubbed because The Sopranos keeps getting nommed on popularity. It was a good show, but they shouldn't have gotten a sentimental send-off just for that when there were more standout performances in the actor and actress categories this past season.

I am glad most agree with me. After the ensemble win for the Sorprano's I turned the show off. I was very dissapointed. Damages was a MUCH better show than the Soprano's final season.

Gandolfini, Falco and The Sopranos were given very nice undeserved parting gifts. No way were they the best this past season.

I had hoped for Kyra Sedgwick and The Closer to win. My second choice for Best TV Drama was Mad Men.

I am so sick & tired of The Sopranos & especially of Gandolfini & Falco. I haven't seen Mad Men, but I cannot believe Damages was passed over. It's an amazing show with outstanding performances by all. Please let the Sopranos go away. I hate the fact that Gandolfini & Falco were basically automatic winners (although I didn't mind an award or two for Michael Imperioli!).

I disagree partly. Edie Falco gave a gripping performance when Tony was shot, however James Gandolfini did not deserve the award. Hugh Laurie or Jon Hamm should have taken the SAG home. They are both mesmerizing on the screen. The ensemble award was just a joke.

I disagree as well. I've seen a episodes here and there, mostly in the last season since my parents watched it all the time and I wasn't impressed. I was not only mad that Lost was snubbed again, but that The Sopranos swept the drama categories. The Globes had it right with Mad Men and John Hamm winning and Glenn Close winning for Damages. At least when Lost ends in a few years, I know they will win all the SAG awards it's nominated for automatically. Is that like a rule for award shows: any show nominated that has had it's series finale and was a big hit will automatically win. I think more people were talking about the Lost season finale than the Sopranos one. I do agree about Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin winning the lead actor/actress in a comedy. Why not have a Jeer about that fact that Matthew Fox or anyone from Lost for that matter has been snubbed again? Or that Friday Night Lights is continuously missing from every award show so far?
