Cheers: Idol Cuts Not-So-Fab Four

080222cheers-idol.jpg
Garrett Hayley and Ryan Seacrest by Michael Becker / FOX
Cheers to American Idol for deservedly sending four singers packing: Leif Garrett-esque Garrett Haley (whose tentative version of "Breaking Up Is Hard to Do" was proven wrong by Ryan Seacrest's swift dismissal); pretty but bland Amy Davis (who warbled "Where the Boys Are" but apparently couldn't find where the votes are); vocally underwhelming plus-size mannequin Joanne Borgella (is it too late for her to get onto Top Model?) and instantly forgettable Colton Berry (whose name should be a Ben & Jerry's flavor). I only wish Simon Cowell & Co. could've cut more than four. Seriously, is this the most unimpressive crop of Idol finalists ever? I'm starting to think America's musical talent pool has been drained bone-dry.

I think that's a little unfair, there are some great talents in this crop. Teeny little David Archuleta and Carly Smithson are as talented as anyone that's been on the show. I'm also a big fan of Asia'h (odd name though) and Michael Johns (YUMMY! I'm just sayin'). By far my favorite is Amanda though. She is just so darn cool! And her voice is distinctive. She does her own thing, and it's so awesome.

I don't know what group you are listening to. Most of the guys this year are better than the best of last year. Also, much as I like Jordin Sparks I don't think she would get half way through the girls this year.

They're young, give'em a chance to get their footing.
