Cheers: Desperate's Latest Twists

Cheers to Desperate Housewives for hitting a high note with its first post-twister (and last pre-strike!) episode. From the welcome return of M*A*S*H veteran Mike Farrell as Victor's cold-blooded father (who knew B.J. could be such an SOB?) to the Frasier-level farces involving Bree's gay roofer and Ida's ashes, it was a delight. Yet it had moments of genuine pathos as well, like when Lynette saw her family emerge from the rubble (though I wouldn't have minded if bratty Kayla hadn't made it). And how about Carlos going blind? I just hope it lasts longer than SVU's "Blinded" debacle — and the strike doesn't last much longer for Desperate fans.

I really enjoyed last nights ep & after the ending I'm anxious for the strike to be over even more - if that is possible. One sad note, for me, is if this was the final episode for Nathan Fillion's Adam. They never really gave him enough to do, but he is one of my favorite actors, and I'd be happy to watch him just sit and deal with Dana Delany. It's better than no Nathan Fillion at all!

I doubt this was Fillion's last episode, since they haven't really resolved his story line—and I agree they haven't given him enough to do.

Kayla actually hasn't been bratty at all this season though if they had killed her I doubt anyone would have even noticed since none of the kids have been showcased that much except for the two boys. Having one of them talk about Ida and what she did for them was one of the most touching scenes of this episode. In fact, the whole Lynette/Mrs. McClusky segments were well done. I also loved the dinner scene with Bree, Orson, that homebuilder, and especially Andrew and Susan. LOL! As for Carlos going blind, what a convenient plot contrivance! And I now really want to know what was in that note Dylan now wish she didn't know about! I really hope the writers strike gets settled real soon (hopefully with them getting most of what they want).

The last couple of years I have been on the fence about DH and have come several times over that period of time to "divorcing" the show, but this season and the last 2 episodes have really started to restore my faith and have made me remember why I loved DH so much in the first place!

BTW, Gaby better not dump Carlos just because he's blind!

Hand the Comedy Lead Actress Emmy to Marcia Cross right now -- her delivery and facial expressions are a riot. The show really struggled during her maternity leave. Bree's character is integral to the "Frasier-level" farces noted by Bruce that balance the emotional depths of Lynette's new-found insights about valuing Mrs. McClusky's presence in her life. Also cheering on Emmy Supporting Actress noms to Dana Delany and Kathryn Joosten.

Another touching moment was when Kayla yelled out "Mom" just like the rest of the kids as she emerged from the basement. She once told Tom that she would never accept Lynette as her mother and would never love her.

Bree always has the best one liners, and tonight was no exception. Bree to Andrew: "you can raise a man's hopes without satisfying them, I've done it all my life." She was in close competition though, with Bob and Lee's comments about 'gay math.'

I noticed Kayla calling Lynette "Mom" too. Thought it was a bit odd, but then maybe she has a new appreciation for the family she's got after nearly dying.

The episode was "near perfect". I disagree that it would have been better if the Scavio's "half brat" had died.... those "legitimate" Savio BRATS are W-A-Y (!!!) more intolerable!! Cherry missed the PERFECT chance to clean up the show and rid the show (AND us viewers) of those little beasts!!! They are the bane of the show since the beginning. Thank goodness for DVR so I can skip all their "brat scenes"!!!
