Cheers: A Desperate Disaster
John Slattery and Ricardo Antonio Chavira in Desperate Housewives by Danny Feld/ABC
Cheers to Desperate Housewives for finding a creative way to dispatch Victor (John Slattery, who's better suited to Mad Men anyway). Fairview's Machiavellian mayor met his maker during the ABC soap's spectacular "twister" episode when he was impaled on a shard from a white picket fence. The week's other casualty, crazed ex-mistress Sylvia (Melora Walters), seemed like a bit of a cheat, especially since the opening voiceover led us to believe the ladies of Wisteria Lane would lose a "friend." Still, when the final shot revealed the tornado's devastation, I was blown away.

Yeah the "friend" being Adam's stalker was lame beyond belief. I'm thinking maybe Ida is dead too though. So will they all be living in FEMA trailers on the next episode? Watching Bree try to set up house in one of those would be a hoot. Or maybe they move in with Andrew in his dump? Or maybe even with her ex-mother-in-law. Either of those scenarios could be pretty entertaining.
But a couple of jeers-did you notice not a single adult wondered at all about their kids' safety other than Lynette. Bree never once mentioned Andrew, who didn't move THAT far away. Susan didn't seem at all concerned as to Julie's whereabouts. Maybe she hates her as much as we do? "> And what about Katherine's daughter?
Victor's chasing afetr Carlos witha gun in the middle of the storm was almost as preposterous as Billy Zane hunting Leo Dicaprio while the Titanic sank!

good points about the kids being overlooked buffyfreak and which "friend" was killed? all the friends seem to be alive unless maybe Carlos is dead. Another question where was Wisteria's gay couple in a major story like this that affected the whole neighborhood they were nowhere to be seen. Will they go the way of the Applewhite's? BTW I knew Victor would be killed by a picket when he and Carlos were fighing and the pickets went flying by one by one I said to myself Victor is going to get impaled with a picket.

The dead "friend" was not revealed in this episode. The voice over did not say they would lose a friend at the end of the episode just the end of the day. The day will continue in the next episode.

Oh and as for the kids, they were on a school trip. Katherine was talking to Dylan on the phone in the beginning of the episode when she noticed Sylvia outside. She made some mention of Julie being with Dylan before she hung up the phone.

Bruce Fretts:
Sorry, but you'd have to be a bit lamebrained to think the "friend" mentioned in the episode's voiceover was a reference to Adam's stalker Sylvia. THINK a little, will you?
The other victim, who has yet to be identified, is most likely Ida!

Julie & Dylan were on a class trip. In the beginning of the episode, Katherine is on the phone with Dylan telling her she should not come home because they had paid for the trip. She also told Dylan to tell Julie not to worry, that she would watch out for Susan.

GarryB--Call me a bit lamebrained, but if the "friend" turns out to be Ida, that still seems like a bit of a cheat. She's never seemed particularly close to any of the main women on the show.

Ida was a neighbor, friend, whatever. Adam's stalker was neither--agree?

I agree Adam's stalker was neither a friend nor a neighbor, but I can't imagine any of the main women would be too broken up about losing Ida. Or her cat.

I think the friend is Tom. After all, from the looks of it, the house fell in on him and the kids as well as Ida.

My vote is that Tom's the dead friend. Did ya not see Lynette freaking out?! Not to mention he's a pretty useless character. Just think of the mileage they can get out of Lynette, the single mom cancer survivor with that brood of brats.

I think it's Ida who died b/c Karen kept referring to her as a friend, and that's what friends do, etc.

Buffy Freak, we hate Julie? I thought it was Susan we hated?

Wow GaryB, that's harsh, especially since Bruce is only pointing out that the opening's threat of a friend's death would be a total rip if that casualty was Sylvia. While it's clear Ida was doomed from all the "friend" fighting Lynette did with McCluskey, there's still hope that it could be one of those dreadful Scavo kids. And let's not forget that Sylvia was at least Adam's friend...unless he lets enemies lick his tattoos, too.
But here's my concern: How come everyone was passed out asleep in McCluskey's basement while Gaby, Edie, Carlos and Victor were outside fighting? It was obviously way before nightfall, so there is no chance those kids wouldn't be awake. Was there some sort of carbon monoxide leak down in the old bat's basement? Did the whole bunch of 'em perished peacefully? That would be even better than Katherine spitting in the face of that Tina Fey lookalike!
