Cheers & Jeers: On Strike!

Cheers & Jeers to... nothing! That's right, for the first time since I launched this blog two months ago, there was nothing notable on TV. A two-hour Cane? Can you say "burn-off"? Back-to-back reruns of According to Jim? That's just cruel. Boston Legal? I object. And as much as I love/hate Nip/Tuck, I can't write about it every week. I blame the writers and producers for not settling the strike sooner. So I'm going on strike and not Cheer or Jeer anything — until tonight, at least. C'mon, the Top Model finale's on!

• Read and react to Bruce's opinions on The Hills, Friday Night Lights and more!
• Share your own raves and rants about other shows on the Reader Cheers & Jeers discussion board.
• We may feature your Cheer or Jeer on TVGuide.com or in TV Guide magazine!

What did you think of the Shrek special? I know it was a repeat, but I thought it was worth rewatching.
Do you say Cheer?
Or Jeer?

I thought it was better than Shrek the Third, but it was no Grinch. Still, I refuse to Cheer or Jeer it officially today—I'm on strike!

Why is According To Jim even still on TV? Who is watching it? Reruns of "Still Standing" are better than "According to Jim"!

For the first time in months, I actually spent time away from the TV. Sad, really, but at least I got some wrapping finished! How about a Cheers & Jeers on Britney? Oh... wait...

TG For TiVo! I am looking ahead on FMC and TCM and recording all of the LATE night clasic movies. Can we say the entire Thin Man series? How about a Cheers and Jeers column on those classic movie channels?

Bruce, since you're a striking writer, perhaps you can answer this rhetorical question for me :-/ : When a writer goes on strike, shouldn't his/her picket sign be blank?

As much as I have been a TV addict since the age of about 18 months, I can't say I'm too inconvenienced by this strike yet. I've got stuff on tape from the 90s that I haven't even watched yet! (Tape? How quaint.)

I feel for the writers and all of the others put out of work by the strike, so on that level, I hope the strike ends soon. It's sad (in a pathetic way) when creative people are out of work, because they tend to curl up in a whiny ball of self-absorption. Also, all the wait-staff at all the restaurants on the cusp of showbiz are now secretly happy that they haven't had that big break yet, because at least they have steady pay coming in. The whole balance of order is upset by this strike.

Anyway, enough of my blathering. I have a tape with "Aftershock miniseries" written on it. (I wonder if it will merit a Cheer or a Jeer.)
