Jeers: Idol Tarnished by Truth

Jeers to Fox for soiling its squeaky clean American Idol with promos for the super-sleazy Moment of Truth. Less than 15 minutes into this week's Beatles-themed sing-off, the network ran an ad for the lie-detector game show in which a contestant answers yes to the question, "Have you ever had physical relations with any of your friends' wives?" (It was followed, ironically enough, by a spot for the G-rated Horton Hears a Who!) C'mon, Fox, a lot of us watch Idol with our kids! We don't want to explain this trash to them — and that's the cold, hard truth.

The only way I would watch one second of Moment of Truth is if they got people like Eliot Spitzer, Larry Craig, Alberto Gonzalez, etc. into the hot seat. Watching trailer trash admit to affairs while their families sit nearby all to try and win some money is just beyond reprihensible.

Buffy Freak - I'm not sure I'd watch that show even with that "guest cast" you mention, but it's about the only way that show wouldn't be completely bottom-feeding. The entire concept of that show is disgusting, and I am absolutely appalled at the depths to which people will debase themselves and hurt others all for the sake of a few bucks. I can't believe that dreck is still on the air, let alone that Fox seems to be pushing it as hard as it is. The commercials alone offend me; I can't even imagine actually tuning in to watch that show.

MoT is a new low in reality TV and for FOX which specializes in this type of garbage. I can't imagine why anyone would be a contestant on this show or even watch it for that matter. It only took 15 minutes of the first episode to cure me of watching. It's like Jerry Springer with cash prizes.

Does that me you have already figured out how to explain to your kids the meaning of 'when the moment is right...........?" or "call a doctor after four hours...of WHAT?!!!?":O;)

Fox should just do away with "Moment of Truth" completely...not just the commercials during Idol. It is the most ridiculous new show on television! Reality TV at its worst!!!

Bruce, I'm glad you brought this up, because I can imagine no one at Fox was thinking of the juxtaposition of their promos and ads. Hopefully, more than a few people at Fox are bonking their foreheads with the heel of their hand today.

I can't stomach either Idol or MoT, but I know Idol has a family viewership, and I think it was really astute of you to point this out.

I sent FOX an email asking them to stop with those commercials. At least avoid using sex in the promos.
It is truly awful that the commercials are not the same rating as the show they pay for.

Get rid of the promos for Moment of Truth? I say get rid of the show itself. I didn't think that bit from the Studio 60 pilot would come true...I guess they actually did put together a reality show where the wife got the answer to the question 'Who Wants to Do My Sister?' The answer, based on the Moment of Truth promo, is her husband, and he didn't just stop with one of them...

I definitely agree and thank you for showing us that someone has a sense for this kind of stuff by posting this. Sometimes you wonder if all those working in TV are just screwed up morally and ethically. I also hate that I can be sitting there watching American Idol with my 12 yo son, and Victoria Secret almost naked models are parading across the screen during the commercials. Please get a clue Fox. Thanks for putting some Family viewing up but PLEASE, please dispose of the skank at least during these 2-3 hours of tv.

"I also hate that I can be sitting there watching American Idol with my 12 yo son, and Victoria Secret almost naked models are parading across the screen during the commercials."

Oh yeah, nudity, great moral cause to be "protecting" your kids from. Here's a hint: American Idol is just as intellectually bankrupt as The Moment of Truth. They're both stupid crap. Maybe instead of protecting your child from something as harmless as what a woman looks like naked, you ought to be teaching them not to watch crap like American Idol instead.

"not only did they show the promo tuesday, they had the show on early...my children had to miss idol because it was on later and could not even watch because of the trash they did put on...we watch texas, walker ranger reruns"

Another great idea. Keeping your children away from sex in exchange for violence instead. Isn't that a wonderful trade to make? Let's watch Chuck Norris beat people up for an hour kids, so that mommy doesn't have to explain to you what all grown ups are biologically compelled to do! Absolutely brilliant idea. Let's get sex ed taken out of schools too, because we'd be protecting the children from harmful knowledge of that horrible thing, right?
