Jeers: Amanda Overmyer — Make It Stop!

Amanda Overmyer by Frank Micelotta/Fox
Jeers to Amanda Overmyer for another overbearing performance on American Idol. The shouter with the two-tone hair steamrolled the Beatles' "Back in the USSR" (oh-so-cleverly changing the lyrics to "the Ukraine boys" and "Moscow guys"). What was Paula Abdul thinking — or drinking — when she called the painfully derivative Overmyer "quintessential and authentic"? Has she never heard Janis Joplin? I have, and I didn't like the original either. Simon Cowell's not known for understatement, but he was too kind (imagine that!) when he said Amanda's "actually in danger of becoming a bit boring." All I can say is: Don't wake me when it's Overmyer.

I so agree. I'm already bored with her, and even turned off Idol last night.

I totally agree. Last night Simon said she kept sounding the same week after week. I said that in Hollywood week. She was great when she did Joplin. Now, not so much. She does not sing a song, she attacks it, and I for one am way over her.

i agree with the Amanda overmyer thing, i just don't get her, but i am a huge fan of janis joplin and she is similar, but not anywhere near the same... it's really not made for american idol, send me the pop stars!

She may not be the best, but I think what we're seeing is her. She's real, not putting on an act like kristy and brooke.

Sorry Bruce, I totally disagree. I like Rock. I think todays music is watered down crap. she reminds me of Janice Joplin. Amanda needs work, she needs polish. The right producer can do that. I would agree with anyone who says she needs a coach. But she's a diamond in the rough.

NO POP! I AM SICK OF POP! The US invented Rock - for once let's let a rocker through! I admit I like David Cook much better. But I'd listen to Amanda over the runs and the all the smooth pop junk any day. Kristy makes my ears bleed and some of them act like they are treading water. At least Amanda tries.

ha ha, as someone else said, I have been saying this since hollywood week. Amanda needs to GO. She sings one way and one way only. If she doesn't get voted off, Idol needs to have a Whitney Houston week next because if that was the case, Amanda would be royally screwed.

Haha she sounds like a 50yr old cougar who has lived alife of cigars and whisky.
I actually really liked her in the beginning, she was totally different and funky. But she is choosing the wrong songs and she is forcing them out..

Nope! Not a jeer to be found here - this is just awesome. The more 'singers' like this the producers shove on this show, hopefully the more people will realize how incredibly fake and false it all is. AI became reality TV at its worst a long time ago - and yet, countless numbers watch. Imagine a show where the contestants really could sing - similar to So You Think You Can Dance. But this show isn't about talent - it's 100% ratings driven. Sad, really...

Cheers to Amanda Overmyer for telling it like it is. When she said she wanted her fans to know what they'd be getting if they came to one of her concerts, it showed me she had some ethics and was someone who could be trusted. This is totally unlike what Ruben Studdard did in Season 2. He sang in a velvetine voice throughout the competition, yet after he won, the album he cut was not at all the singing or style he had shown America duringthe competition. I wish he had been as honest as Amanda!

Gawd, yes. Please let's put her out of our misery.

And, as a fan of Janis Joplin, the comparison really bugs. Janis was an artist. Amanda screams. No comparison.

If Amanda could actually carry a tune at a normal decibel, she would have sung "Me & Bobby McGee" during 70's week, instead of butchering Kansas. She knows her limitations. And they are huge.

Was it just me or did it seem like the judges were scared of her or something? She was terrible. Bye, bye.
