Veronica Mars Is Now "Officially Dead"

Maybe now the healing can begin....

The CW has officially pulled the plug on Veronica Mars. Series creator Rob Thomas confirmed the news for me via e-mail just moments ago.

"I'm afraid I have to report that Veronica Mars is officially dead," he wrote. "At least in TV-show form. There's really no way that it can happen now. I'm not sure the CW should've given the glimmer of hope. I think Dawn Ostroff genuinely would have liked to have continued on with a version of the show, but there was too much resistance around her. At the end of the day, it would've been kinder had the band-aid simply been ripped off rather than peeled away in this agonizingly slow manner."

Ironically, the news comes just as Veronica Mars fans — emboldened by Jericho's 11th-hour resurrection — are in the midst of bombarding the CW with thousands of Mars candy bars in advance of that June 15 deadline.

In light of this development, it might make sense to redirect those deliveries to Warner Bros.' features division — specifically, the folks who would be responsible for greenlighting a Veronica Mars film. Just a thought. If you've got a better idea, by all means, post it below.

Well, I did my part. I sent my mars bars AND wrote a letter. Miracles can happen right?

When they know that this is one of the four or five shows they air that ANYONE gives a crap about, who do they give fans this agonizingly long send off?

Screw you CW. Dawn Ostroff should start getting that resume ready now.

No more Gilmore, no Veronica...and I'm still smarting over Everwood. The CW is completely over for me and I hope Dawn gets what she deserves.

If Dawn really genuinely wanted to renew it, she could've. I've never seen such an unprofessional network like the CW. I hope they have the lowest rankings forever as I am NEVER watching anything on that goddamned network again.

I am not sure that the news coming at prior to the June 15th deadline was so ironic. They probably wanted to curb the onslaught of Mars Bars before it did get to Jericho amounts.

How disappointing, though not a huge shock anymore. It sounds like Ms Ostroff gave it a shot, but was unable to keep up the fight after 3 seasons of so-so to dismal ratings; so I guess I will reserve my harsh words for those around her. I still do not plan on watching much of their network if I can help it, though I heard they have a couple of genuinely intriguing pilots in store for next season.

Veronica & gang will be sorely missed!

Jayhawk - I TOTALLY agree with you about the timing. I've said that elsewhere.

And it does sound like Dawn liked VM, but clearly she's not got the power at CW that she did previously.

I think my viewing eyes and pocket money will have to take a walk at this point. Nothing on the CW is tempting enough for me.

hate this stupid network! Seriously how can they cancel the best tv show ever? Veronica Mars is so good, come on. I'm pissed, that's all.

Thank god the new tv shows at CW look terrible, hope they all fail. Really do.

Buuut I still hope that everything changes in June 15.

i don't even feel the outrage anymore. i'm just kind of... numb. i sent my postcards and mars bars and personal letter. i did what i could while knowing it wouldn't really work... and right now i don't feel a huge crush of disappointment like i thought i would. we tried. i didn't work.

i just hope that rob thomas can take his cast and crew judd apatow-style and move on to bigger and better things. i love the chemistry that the cast has together and can easily see them working together on different shows and/or movies. can't wait to see what he comes up with.

This is wrong on so many levels.
Now, it's only a matter of time until The CW crashes and burns. They've basically pissed off every fan of the network they had.

I can understand their logic behind canceling the show even if I disagree with it, BUT the way they've handled it is absolutely disgusting. They gave fans hope that there was still the possibility of some sort of VM, they took forever to actually cancel the show, and they couldn't even give it the opportunity to wrap things up with a proper series finale.

It may not have been the biggest show on the CW, but it had a loyal following of a few million viewers. We deserve to be treated better than this.
