Strike Fallout: Heroes Prepping Season Finale!

Heroes' second season may be coming to a close a lot sooner than expected due to the forthcoming apocalypse, also known in some circles as the damn writers' strike.

Sources confirm that the show is going back and shooting an alternate ending to the Dec. 3 episode that, if used, would allow the episode to function as a season finale in the event of a strike. Originally, the episode was only supposed to serve as the conclusion of the current "Generations" arc. Should an 11th-hour agreement be reached and a strike averted (fingers crossed!), the alt ending would likely be scrapped.

In related news, the reality of this whole thing is only now hitting me. And I'm not happy.

NOOOOO!!! That sucks. I'm really liking heroes. And if it's gone that long, it won't make it and that'd be a real shame.

Hopefully, the producers or whoever the writers are going up against will realize it'd be cheaper to give the writers the money they deserve than a long strike and losing all those viewers.

I will NOT watch reality shows and game shows. Good thing I have lots of tv-on-dvd sets I can get caught up on instead.

I find it ironic that if the writers go on strike, a lot of people will be like Leah and go for TV shows on DVD seeing as those royalties were a contention point in these negotiations. The writers are sending people exactly where they don't want them to go - away from the television.

I'm so disappointed in Heroes this season that I think they could probably use the break to concentrate on getting back to form for Season 3. Plus, the less we have to see Hiro in honk-shoo boring feudal Japan, the better.

RLGilmorefan:

In a nutshell, the writers are trying to negotiate how they will be reimbursed for their contributions in the new media marketplace (i.e. DVD, the internet, mobile phones, et al).

This is a pretty good summary from a WGA member who has worked extensively in TV and other media:

This is terrible news, but while the Heroes issue is certainly troubling what of our other fave, Lost, which doesn't even start its season until January or February??? ?<img border=">:O

I don't think lost will be effected much. I bet they already have all the scripts written. They've had long enough.

Yes, I read that LOST has 14 of 16 scripts completed, so they should be too badly affected. In fact, it should help with ratings since it will be one of a few shows with original programming.

I think it is the opposite for shows coming on at midseason especially if the writers/producers report to work later than most. While most shows that started in September have scripts to episode 11 or so, I could see a show like 24 fraught with issues, only have a half dozen scripts or so. And they will only be shooting episodes for scripts already in the can.

emily052Actually you couldn't be more wrong. Sending people away from network telecasts or non-scripted shows is exactly what the writers want. If people don't watch unscripted TV then the Nets loose lots of money. If people continue to watch reality/game/whatever unscripted shows during the strike then it would show the writers are not needed to make the nets money. That would weaken the writers position.

Leah, If you don't think Lost will be affected then you are deluding yourself. Whether the scripts are written or not isn't the only issue. The haven't filmed all the new episodes yet and I've read it's very common for scripts to get tweaked or sections rewritten before they are filmed or during filming. No writers and they can't do that without using scabs.

Ok, let's say there is a strike, it lasts until the middle of December not too long after this "season" finale episode has aired. Assuming they have advertised that this is the season finale, will they scrap the rest of the season?

The less Heroes, the better. Stop this trainwreck of a season as soon as possible!
