Snappy Judgments: 2007 Golden Globe Nods

071213daisieslost.jpg
Anna Friel and Lee Pace by Ron Tom/ABC; Matthew Fox and Elizabeth Mitchell by Mario Perez/ABC
I'm Super Ecstatic About:
• All the freshman fawning. First-year gems Damages, Mad Men and Pushing Daises all scored multiple nods.
• Big love for HBO's Big Love, which flirted with perfection in its second season.
• Donald Sutherland getting recognized for Dirty Sexy Money. But what's he doing in the supporting race?
• Emmy Shemmmy. Michael C. Hall gets his due for Dexter.

Yawns to:
• Patricia Arquette? Really?
• Combining comedy, drama, movie and mini-series contenders in the supporting acting races. How long before they open up the contest to Broadway thesps?
Entourage gets a best comedy nod for its worst season.

I'm Super Pissed About:
• Nothing for Lost? Not even Elizabeth Mitchell? WTF?
The Shield once again couldn't get arrested.
• Three words: Friday. Night. Lights. You should watch it sometime, HFPA.
• No best comedy nod for the best comedy on the air, Ugly Betty? Not. Funny. At. All.
• Bupkis for Grey's Anatomy's fierce Chandra Wilson? Seriously?
• No love for Big Love's three wives, particularly Ginnifer Goodwin?
• The HFPA stiffs Keri Russell for her flawless Waitress work. One order of cheese fries with extra spit coming up!

OK, that's my two cents' worth. Now it's your turn. Post your own snappy judgments below.

I'm shocked that Kristen Chenowith was snubbed! Her character on Pushing Daisies is the brightest spot in an already great series.

Nothing for LOST??? Seriously??!!??

Ugly Betty not getting a nod!!

I love the Damages love though. This was one show that took me by surprise and only thanks to Itunes providing the first episode for free. I wouldn't have caught this show otherwise.

I am also happy that Rachel Griffiths and Katherine Heigl both got supporting noms. yay for that.

The movie noms look OK, but the TV ones are complete garbage.

The LOST finale was the single best episode of TV I saw this past year, it's just ridiculous to ignore the show. Especially when something as stale as Grey's gets a nod instead.

Nice to see the three noms for Pushing Daisies, but as good as the leads are, Chenoweth and Chi McBride are even better.

And totally agree on having split categories for leads but combined ones for supporting. Makes no sense at all.

I just don't understand Grey's Anatomy getting nominated for Best Drama. Not for this past season. Friday Night Lights derserved that spot.

"Lost" definitely deserved a nod, and the love for "Californication" mystifies me, but right now I am so happy about Donald Sutherland I can't be too displeased.

Thrilled beyond imagination about Pushing Daisies, although I agree with the snubbing of McBride and Chenoweth.

I also agree about the lack of love for Keri Russell in "Waitress". If I hadn't been a fan before seeing the movie, I would've been one afterwards. She was so good in that movie.

I agree that last season's Entourage was its worst yet. And I concur with that whole Supporting Category thing. How can you compare performances from TV movies with TV shows. But I think Donald Sutherland does belong in the Supporting Category. Peter Krause is the lead on DSM.

I realized that four of the six best drama nominees averaged less than 3 Million viewers: Big Love, The Tudors, Damages, and Mad Men. Hopefully, these nods will help people tune into these great shows.

I am really happy for both Jon Hamm and Michael C. Hall. If either one of them wins I'll be happy.

Clearly the HFPA didn't watch either Grey's or LOST in 2007 because there is no way that Grey's Anatomy should have been nominated. That is the one of the few things that these nominations have in common with the Emmys.

One more thing Michael. Keri Russell also didn't get nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards. I assume you were shocked to find that out especially since you predicted she would win when she was on you vodcast.

The awards shows love Entourage because it's about the industry and has a lot of in jokes, but very few people outside of Hollywood find it that entertaining.

Ugly Betty got robbed!!! I dont understand how America fererra can get a nom for best actress in a comedy yet the show didn't get one for best comedy; and I think Vanessa Williams was also snubbed...she's fabulous!

As for Katherine Heigl being nommed...are u serious? Her character has gotten worse on this show lately! Chandra Wilson def. should have gotten one, even Sandra Oh has done well.

I *am* thrilled to see both Lee Pace and Pushing Daisies nominated however I think Kristen Chenowith could have been nominated as well as the actor that plays Ned's partner Emerson.

Well, it seems to me that Boston Legal was underserved, but it's its 4rth season, so I may understand. Really glad about Donald Sutherland, he's great in DSM. I hope the GG for that category will be for him or Bill Shatner.

Michael C. Hall is one thing they did right.

But where was Dexter?

And nothing for Friday Night Lights? Nothing?

Snubbed:

"Dexter"
"Friday Night Lights" - Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton
"Ugly Betty" - woukd've been nice to see Michael Urie or Becki Newton.
"The Shield"

Happy for:

"House" and Hugh Laurie (he should be nominated just for his acceptance speeches)
Michael C. Hall (love Laurie, but Hall deserves it)
"Big Love"
Love for "30 Rock", "Mad Men" and "Pushing Daisies"
