Britney Spears and Josh Radnor in How I Met Your Mother by Monty Brinton/CBS Neil Patrick Harris is going to be so ~~pissed~~ thrilled! A spokesperson for How I Met Your Mother is confirming what I first hinted at earlier this month: Britney Spears has officially signed on to reprise her role as Abby for one episode during May sweeps. In the episode, titled "Everything Must Go," Barney and Abby realize that they have one thing in common — their mutual hatred of Ted. The new "couple" decide to go to the bar to flaunt their new relationship in Ted’s face. Desperate to get a rise out of his former pal, Barney pops a surprising question to Abby. I know what you're thinking: Barney hates Ted!? Fallout from his makeout session with Robin last week, perhaps? "We're all so thrilled to have Britney joining us once again," said executive producer and co-creator Craig Thomas in a statement. "And just to head it off at the pass this time around: Yes, Mom, Britney's very nice and no, I can't get her autograph for you." Production on Brit's ep begins today and is scheduled to air May 12. Sounds like it could be a great ep. The Britney/Barney stuff didn't happen until the end of the episode the first time around so I'm looking forward to her return. Though I think I'm in the minority on that.

Though I think I'm in the minority on that. I guess I'm in that minority as well, because I cannot wait for her return...I've watched the show since season 1 (b4 she came on) and I think she is a great guest star for the show!

Ok, guess I'm in the minority too. I don't particularly care for BS, ha ha I said BS...anyways...I don't care for her, but she suprised the heck out of me & was actually pretty decent on the show (considering there are some lame-o's on there right now, like Lily & Marshall, who used to rock, but since they've gotten married, they've sucked).

In my opinion, Britney is no worse than any other bit actress they could have gotten. What's with the hate? I'm not a fan of the singer, but she is doing just fine with the part. If she brings more viewers then I'm all for her doing another eppie.

Well she wasn't horrible on the last one. I am with the other posters that say she doesn't make or break the show but if she can get them a forth season then Bring Her Back. This season has beenn a little off even when BS wasn't on screen. Mostly would like to see more Robin being Robin and Pre-suit Barney. I reallly want to see the conclusion of the Bracket.

The little pissant whiners about Britney's appearance on HIMYM need to get a grip.

Although I am not a fan, I concede (with a measure of gratitude) that it was Britney's guest spot that gave How I Met Your Mother the boost it needed in the ratings and virtually assured the show's renewal for fall. Otherwise, the show could very well have been canceled.

You folks who are falling all over yourselves in overheated disgust, ask yourself this: would you rather have HIMYM on the air with a Britney guest shot or would you rather be sending little yellow cocktail umbrellas to Les Moonves trying to get CBS to un-cancel the show?

If it's the latter, there is a membership in The Firefly/Jericho/Journeyman Club waiting with your email address on it.

I'm more concerned with the part about Barney hating Ted. How long will this situation last? Based on the older Ted talking to his two kids, it must not last long since he talks about Uncle Barney to them, but I hope it doesn't drag out too long. AND I hope the reason will be believable.
