Numbers, Jericho, L&O Scoop! Plus: Random Thoughts

Here's some exclusive prattle with a few random thoughts tossed in for added flavor:

* The West Wing's Josh Malina is joining the cast of Numbers as a whip-smart, crusading federal prosecutor known for his persistence in going after tough cases. He'll debut in Episode 9 and will likely recur.

* CBS has picked Jericho up for a full season. Thanks Kim Jong II!

* NBC, encouraged by Law & Order: Criminal Intent's ratings on Tuesday night, has ordered a full 22 episodes, up from 18.

* Do we want to live in a world where Criminal Minds beats Lost in the ratings? From a just-released CBS press bulletin: "Criminal Minds beat Lost in households for the first time ever and finished in a near dead heat with Lost in viewers in the 9-10 pm hour and attracted more viewers than Lost from 9:30-10 pm." That Tasti D-Lite shop is starting to look really good right about now.

* Everything you've read about the Grey's Anatomy kerfuffle is 100 percent true.

* Kidnapped is shooting across the street from our offices today. You'd be amazed at how much work goes into a show that only 16 people will see.

* Fox has ordered three additional Standoff scripts. All of them terrible. (Actually, Tim Minear is working on the show now, so I take that back.)

* Someone named Pat O'Brien posted a comment to this blog (see below). Could this be the Pat O'Brien? You know, of "Betsy" fame?

* Yet another reason we love this whole Internet thing: Flight attendants talking smack about rude celebrities!

I certainly do not want to live in a world where more people watch Criminal Minds than Lost. That boggles my mind almost as much as the same number of people watching CSI as watch Grey's Anatomy.

Think of it this way. All the people that were frustrated with Lost's non-procedural nature, and that we've told to go watch Criminal Minds for that type of mindless drivel, have finally listened. I say thank you. Now I don't have to listen to your inane rambling against Lost.

Make that 19 people who watch Kidnapped. I and both my parents watch (my parents watch it live; I watch it later on my DVR). Much better acting than Vanished. I've loved watching Dana Delaney since her China Beach days.

Maybe too many Lost viewers were either watching the Tigers beat the A's or were too upset by the NYC plane crash to watch Lost.

Tim Minear is now working on "Standoff" - that will make three FOX programs this talented guy worked on that got cancelled before finishing their initial 22 episodes. Compared to the first two, this show really sucks. I so miss what "Wonderfalls" and "Firefly" would have become.

Hey Tim, here's an idea, get Caroline Dhavernas back on television.

Oh, and "Lost" is starting to grate on me. Cuse and Lindeloff should talk to Ron Moore and David Eick or Joss Whedon about how to pay off your dangling plot threads in a serialized drama. They just keep adding more questions that need answers and more actors. (Awesome that Nathan Fillion is getting a job on "Lost" now.)

Speaking of which, Nathan Fillion would have been a better lead on either "Standoff" or "Vanished". Both of those shows have/had poor man's versions of Nathan Fillion as their leads.

Good Luck Tim, glad to see you back to work.

ok, first- YAY L&O!!!!!

Glad to know the GA stuff is completely true....

I've never really liked Kidnapped. I watched it once, it was ok.... just never caught my interest....

And now I am sure I am the only person on this planet that doesn't watch Lost (except for all those people watching Criminal Minds)

I'm SO glad that Lost is slipping and slipping and slipping... That's what you get for producing a show where nothing happens and where the character development is random, at best.

It's a pity. People like Tim Minear shouldn't be wasted on unimportant stuff like Standoff when mythology shows like Lost desperately need their help. Speaking of Tim, do you remeber Angel when he used to run it? Somewhere between Angel locking the lawyers in the cellar and Wesley going all dark? Now, that was a mythology show that got everything right. The characters, the subtext and the, erm, mythology.

Remembering how good a genre show can be, makes me all the more glad that Lost is losing viewers by the millions.

I know I'm in a very small minority, but I like Standoff. It's my top guilty pleasure, and if crap like OTH and the OC can stay on the air, why not Standoff?

Add me to the list of [iLost] defectors. I watched the premiere and realized I have no interest in these people or whatever long-drawn-out-never-going-to-be-solved mystery about the Others the writiers have concocted. At this point I'm not sure fresh writers' blood would help.

What's with all the Lost haters today posting. The show rocks. It answers questions by giving us new things to think about. It's like a book, the last chapter is when everything gets answered.

As for Criminal Minds, I figure out the show within five minutes, it's so predictable.

I agree with lady, season 3 rocks. So what if there's more questions , we do eventually get the answers, it just takes time. I guess people get so used to things getting wrapped up in a single episode they don't want to put the time in to wait for the pay-off. I'm looking forward to next week when we get to see the rest of the survivors.

I LOVE LOST! If I could only watch one television show, that would be it. If 2, I'd be torn between Boston Legal & Veronica Mars. I think the third season has been excellent so far. The scene in which Henry Gale (aka Ben) tells Jack that Boston won the 2004 World Series was priceless. I loved Jack's both before & after he's given proof. I wanted to cheer when Jin (my favorite character) DIDN'T do as he was ordered and told Jae to get out of Korea and stay out. There's just so much texture to the show. LOST ROCKS!

I also enjoy Kidnapped, and it's great to have Dana Delaney & Tim Hutton on television again. I'm sorry it won't be around longer. Same with Vanished. I really didn't care for Gale Harold much though.

This Lost hate is messed up. Seriously, the character studies in this show are superb. We don't have the right to any "answers," and frankly I don't want them until the series finale. There's so much else to enjoy in this show.

That said, I do hope that they stick to their original plan to limit themselves to 5 or 6 seasons and a definite conclusion.

u got to love the people cheering the Lost numbers. the haters are out in force. its cool. keep watching shows like criminal minds.

we dont want people like that watching Lost anyway. all they do is complain that plots and stories arent taken care of in 44 minutes. That's not a Lost I want to watch.

I do still watch Lost but I have to say I am annoyed with nothing happening after 2 seasons. All they keep doing is bringing in new characters and more backstories. I am running out of patience.
