New Trek Flick Beams Up House's Morrison

J.J. Abrams has snatched up another tube star for his forthcoming Star Trek reboot. Abrams confirms that House's Jennifer Morrison has joined the cast of his as-yet-untitled Trek pic. "She is indeed in the movie," he tells me, "and she is most excellent!"

Last week, Morrison was spotted outside one of Trek's Hollywood soundstages, sparking rumors that she had quietly come aboard the ensemble, alongside Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban and Heroes' Zachary Quinto. Although Abrams isn't divulging specifics about her character, he is denying Internet chatter that she's playing the Enterprise's glorified secretary (and Kirk's crush), Yeoman Rand — the role originated by Grace Lee Whitney. "She is not [playing Rand]," he says.

Abrams, meanwhile, tells me that the current writers' strike is not affecting production. "Our script is locked," he says.

Thoughts on Morrison's casting? Thumbs up? Thumbs down? Thumbs in between? And got guesses as to who she is playing? (Uhura, perhaps? I kid.) Sound off below!

I sincerely hope that JJ Abrams is casting the best people for the job and not just populating a popular, but flagging, franchise with "hot" stars to draw a larger audience. Honestly, I like Jennifer Morrison, but I just don't think she has the presence for movie work. And Wynonna Ryder as Spock's mother? Really? I think they should have just left well enough alone.

It is confirmed that she is playing Carol Marcus, the mother of Kirk's child. The character was introduced in the movie "The Wrath of Khan."

All I know is that while not confirming who she would play it was confirmed that Carol Marcus is in the script. I read it on IESB.net. It's not confirmed but I'll be money on it.

The Carol Marcus thing isn't official yet, its speculation on IESB.net, just based on the looks of Morrison and the original actresses. But it would make a lot of sense. More than her playing Rand!

Oh, and IESB is saying they have confirmation of Chris Hemsworth playing Kirk's dad. Just an FYI. http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3685&Itemid=99

Honestly, she annoys me to no end on House. I cannot stand to watch her, so I guess this is another reason to skip the new movie.

Both thumbs down.

I heard the same thing Renrut did but its not official. I think she will be playing Carol Marcus though and I hope it's true. Congrats to Jennifer and whether she is playing Carol or not (who is a doctor I might add) I look forward to seeing her on screen next Christmas.

I am pretty sure that Rachel Nichols from Alias is rumored to be Yeoman Rand. Then again, she might have been up for the role Jennifer Morrison got. But Nichols made it seem pretty likely she was involved in the movie in her interview with the Toronto Sun.

Don't get your hopes up boys and girls. If the spoilers are correctly put from various internet sites that said Abram is using elements from an episode written by Harlan Ellison called "City on the Edge of Forever". Then this movie will never see the light of day because Harlan is having his lawyers doing the talking. Ellison's work on that Star Trek episode is protected and it belongs to him. So there is a storm coming. Abram better change his game plan.
