Veronica Mars' Boss: "Very, Very, Very Sad Day"

I forwarded Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas the comments Dawn Ostroff made at the CW upfront (read 'em in my live blog) regarding the show's fate, and below is the response he just sent me:

"No one has talked to me about a new, non-Veronica project. All my writers have been offered jobs elsewhere, and I believe they will now all accept these jobs. Very, very, very sad day around the VM offices.

"I assume that anything Dawn would be talking about in the realm of a Rob-Kristen project would involve a new from-scratch pilot as they don't have me in a deal, and they'll lose Kristen in a couple of weeks."

Bottom line: It's over.

First Gilmore Girls and now this. Simply depressing. Who's giving out hugs?

Michael - I just want to thank you for the work you have done in championing this show. For never letting Dawn get away without asking her that last question - for getting Rob's comments. This is a sad sad TV week for me. But I really appreciate your efforts for VM and GG.

I am so sad. I think I am officially boycotting the CW now, because really what's the point?

Shout out to everyone @ TVGUIDE.com for championing the show, and Michael please send out our love out to Rob & his amazingly talented staff and cast. At least the fans get to walk away with 3 amazing seasons on DVD!

You know, it's not even about VM. (Although I am saddened by this news...I only discovered the show last year thanks to friends' relentess pursuit.) These networks don't listen to their core audiences. This is the freakin' CW for crying out loud. Its ratings are never going to match up to those of the big four. I thought it wanted to be known for cutting edge, quality television? Beauty and the Geek? Yeah, that's quality. It's no wonder networks like TNT and F/X are finding success in their shows. They give the shows a chance to gain an audience and then value the show and its audience.

Wow. I really thought they'd pull through. What are we supposed to do now, since I'm sure next week's episode is NOT a satisfying conclusion? VM movie, anyone?

I guess my Tuesday night's are now the free each week - sad. Two great shows gone. One waaaaay before it's time.

I'm having issues with Dawn and I don't even know her... Thanks, Mike, for keeping us updated and grabbing Rob so fast on this one!

Typical "Yanking Around" of the fans. How can that woman look at herself in the mirror?

Does the season end in a cliffhanger?

I think I need a hug too. This is really sad though not surprising news. After weeks of rumors and denials, I hope there is some way that the finale will be a fitting end to the series. From his response, it really sounds like Rob Thomas and co. got jerked around the last few months, and that's not fair to people that made such a great show for 3 years. It's not fair to the fans either.

It was nice of the CW to pick Veronica up for the 3rd season, but I really don't think that they could have handled it any worse than they did.

Thanks Michael for all your support for the show and giving us fans all the info you could get. You're awesome, as always.

Good luck to the cast and crew of Veronica Mars, and thanks and congratulations for 3 great seasons.

I am so sad... First GG, now VM? There are no words.

P.S. What bugs me most about this is Dawn Ostroff's denial. Why won't she just tell us the show is dead? Is she afraid of the wrath of VM fans? What's her damage?

Well, hopefully Kristin will get picked up in short order on some show that will have some "legs" to it. I'll miss Kristin's and Enrico's back and forth dialogue the most. "Hello, I'm Conrad Drew and this is my daughter Nancy."

Good bye CW
I have no desire to watch that network anymore. I know they lost Gilmore Girls but that was more Lauren and Alexis vs the network. But they had an opportunity to keep a critically acclaimed show and they didn't. I will not be watching the network in the fall. They are not offereing anything intersing for the fall season as compared to the other networks.

Its too bad really, most of the fans are the ones who put out the word on the show. (Cloudwatchers, sending season dvd's to public libraries). Their advertising department are the ones who fell down on the job and didn't promote enough or did a really bad job of it. (NO ONE liked the aerie girls)
